I am curious to know why every time I open poser5 which is a free download and totally good poser tries to connect to the internet? Any ideas here how to stop this or why it happens? More an annoyance than anything else but its getting my "dander" up.
Thanks for any input
Pat

I'm pretty sure there is an option to turn this off in your preferences!

back in the day (as I have been told), if there was an Internet connection, Poser 4 used to go out and see if there were duplicate serial numbers to the running instance, then disable Poser 4 if one was found. It's way more complicated than that, but they may have left that snippet of code in the works.

Well ... He's NOT trying to connect to the internet...
I know it says so but he's NOT..
Its checking the Network connection to see if a Poserversion with the same serial number is active on the network.
So dont worry Poser does not try to log on to the internet, its just checking if you dont use the serial number twice.
And why is it saying it connecting to the Inet then ... well the program can't see the difference to a network connection and the Inet.. its all NETwork to him..
Hope this will help you sleep again tonight :}

Set your firewall to allow Poser through. It's harmless.
If you block it, it will eat up system resources, repeatedly trying to do its serial number check. Basically, every time to do anything - click on something in the library, change views, move a camera, etc. - it will try to do a serial check.
If you let it through, it won't try again until you restart Poser.

You can switch this "feature" off in P6 in your general preferences, can't you do that in 5?
I can't remember, it was a long time ago that I took 5 off my system!!

I don't think you can switch it off. You can switch off the automatic updates, but not the serial check.

no...was not able to locate that...mind you...I can't locate the auto check either...where is that? Nothing in general preferences.
