Bye Ernyoka. Hello TrekkieGrrrl. wave
Hello, Wheatpenny!
Ah, it's good to get fit into the right name.
wheatpenny posted Tue, 14 November 2006 at 3:34 PM Site Admin
The name is based on the fact that when I first started collecting coins, I used to order bulk lots of US coins that turned out to be mostly wheat pennies, so before too long I ended up with several thousand wheat pennies.
For the benefit of non-Americans who may be unfamiliar with the term, a wheat penny is a lincoln cent of the type made from 1909 to 1958, so named because of the wheat ears on the back (see my avi).

Thing is, your avatar is the same as Martian_Manhunter used to have ;o)
I think I've seen those pennies though. My dad bought a lot of foreign coins once on an auction, I vaguely recall some smallish american ones with Lincoln on the front. And some grain on the back.

So... did you actually pay Renderosity for the opportunity to become half of a two-cent input? Perspiring minds would like to know.

I imagine "martian_wheatpennyhunter" woulda been too much of a stretch?
I'd think that'd be kinda cool... martians coming to Earth in search of wheatpennies, and...well, never mind. ;)

Does it matter, really? Would it be a crime for Renderosity to give discounts or perks to staff members? None of us on the forum staff are going to get rich working here, by any stretch of the imagination.

It matters, but only in the sense of increasing the already considerable amusement factor. ;] And I disagree: the forum staff is already pretty rich.

Whatever, IB. I'd love to say that we live in a perfect world where most of us could just mod here and not concentrate on outside things, like having to have an outside job to support a family or even just ourselves, but to tell the truth, the little I get from here won't even pay for gas to get me into town once a week. So, you can take your high horse, and find something else to pick at us about. Staff on almost every site get perks of one sort or another. Even if that "perk" is simply a title.

You know, I have been following the "change username" item issue for several days now, and I have couple of questions/comments on it.
Why does Renderosity charge the $10 to change a name? Is it because of all the links to items someone bought, maintaining a database, etc? (this is not meant as a smart-a** comment, I am really curious - this was my original thought behind the reason).
So what if someone does change their user name? THEY have to decide to change it, not the community at large. Take Aery Soul, they sell incredible stuff under any name they use. It doesn't affect whom they are in the least
I've thought about changing my user name for some time now...I just don't know to what.... (the POST-inator, perhaps....on second thought...NOT).
Perhaps Renderosity could offer buy a name chage, change one free??? LOL....The chaos from that could be interesting....LOL

ROTFL... Umm, yeah. Folks, if anyone ever sees me getting all worked up about chaging a pseudonym, or paying to have one changed (esp. one I've dragged around since 1999 or so)? Someone please shoot me at that time. Thx in advance, /P

Hey, do y'all realize that your new usernames haven't been updated on "The Team" page?JenX posted Sat, 25 November 2006 at 6:12 PM
Yeah, that's admin side stuff...and things'll be updated "soon"
As for the big deal.......sigh I guess we can't win with folks either way. Had we not announced that we'd changed our usernames, the cry would be sent out, by the same people, that we were trying to pull the wool over people's eyes. I guess the only way to make some people happy is to give them something to gas on about, right?

I don't think anyone said it was a "big deal".
I do think alot of us think it's kinda sad that RO wants to market the idea and charge for it, where other places will do it for free - and that the delivery of it was kinda strange:
"...have you ever dreamed of...?"
Personally, I think the whole thing is pretty amusing and has delivered som unexpected yuk-yuks along the way, but I haven't seen a single case of anyone berating anyone else for doing it.
Although I do agree that the forumites would have been revolting if y'all did it with no mention.
That's happened alot, where people have changed their nick, or signed up with a new one, and made an announcement.
You have to realize, it's just that y'all got caught up in one of the weirder ideas they've had around here. ;)
cruzin posted Sun, 26 November 2006 at 8:42 AM
everybody put down their revolvers....or in Ironbears case bow (no disrespect I love animotions) anywho if you want to change your name, 10 bucks if you don't want to pay then don't change it. I liked Martian Manhunter I was hoping for a change to J'onn Jonz (spelled it wrong but the comic guys no what I mean) but everyone seems to be getting charged up over nothing. Silly.
Trekkie girl's name made sense to me, now I know her from other places and didn't think she was here...now I know for sure. Other's hey whatever floats your boats.
Should mods and admins get perks...well hell yeah, if you worked in JC Penny you'd get a store discount or somthing wouldn't you.
The only perk I get from my job is...is...uh...um....well the sense of pride of serving my country and an occasional free beer when I appear somewhere in uniform, it's a perk...right...damn now I'm depressed, gotta make some piggies!
