Well, if this is true....for those in the market for an entry level Nikon DSLR...you had better go out and get a D50 quick.

The translated version indicates it will replace the D50 at the same price but with many less features.

I don't understand Nikon on this one.....

Yes, Kort of course I remember our previous thread...but this one has the alleged specifications for it.  Here is the rough translation through an online translater....

"The official sites not about it will speak that the 16, for the date back to embargo was set up to this day. But a German distributor, Neckerman, dropped the secret while broadcasting, on his site, all the photos and technical infos describing the future D40. Since two weeks, it there has not therefore more of embargo for thousands of forums, that relay without stopping these information.

The complete test of this new numerical appareeil go out in Hunter of pictures n° 289, dated December 2006, that will appear Thursday.

One does not say you all, but you will see that this small Nikon pulls itself well of our technical, theoretical tests and practice.

The D40 will replace the current one D50 and will place itself exactly to the same price. This that explains the big operations of déstockage, to which ones let us attend us in this moment. Technically, it does not present nothing of nine. One rediscovers the sensor 6 mégapixels of the D70s, without none of recent improving that are anti-dust or the stabilization.

The chassis of the D50 are abandoned. The D40 is small: 9 x's 12,6 x's 6,5 cm. Practically 1CM of less in height, width and thickness, that a D50! The weight reduction is all so spectacular one: with 475 grams, the D40 loses 145 grams on the D50. A cleans is without consequence on the basic functions.

The resolution is unchanged (6,1 Mpix), storage is done on card SD (Jpeg or Raw / NAVE 12 bits), but the interface was simplified: all infos are grouped together on the big rear screen (6CM and 230.000 pixels)l, through of very pretty menus. The battery is compact (1.000 mAh EN-EL9), the autofocus is done on 3 collimators only, but sensitiveness can be reach to 3200 ISO in method "push" thanks to the last generation of microprocesseur of which one will see soon the effects benefactors…

The measure is inherited of the D80: matrix 420 segments, centered, spot... and, side methods exposition, Nikon proposes the classics program "Idiots" Portrait, Landscape, Night, etc. The D40 behaves an integrated flash with synchro to THE 1/500s. The functions and compatibilities are the even that on the D80, D200 and D2X (including with the SB-600 and 800).

The D40 is lacking in internal motor; the other objectives that af-s will be able to be used only some perfected manuelle. Nikon accompanies the D40 of a new zoom af-s DX ED 18-55 f/3,5-5,6 g-ii (!) that systematically will be delivered with the device (not any version "nude case").

The D40 will arrive in December. This is then only that one will know the "prices of the street". In this moment, the D50 lives its last days with the offer a discount on to 450 nude Euros and 530 Euros with 18-55. Logically, the D40 will post itself therefore to 599 Euros as soon as the first palettes will have been delivered to the Father Christmas. "

@Chris...yes I too would love a 5D ( or a Nikon Full frame if they come out with one)...

But, there is only one thing between me and the 5D...or should I say about 3500 things...dollars that is! LOL!

According to what I derive- the D40 Body will list for $80 less than the D50 and the kit will list for $100 less than the D50kit.  And what exactly does wanting a Canon 5D have to do with this thread?

@Devious...not sure about the 5D...I just responded to Chris's post...

As for final pricing....I guess we will find out tomorrow....
