Hi: freebies in freestuff have a lot of dead links since the changeover. Will they be fixed? Also I noticed that if I search by artist's name, I get no results. Will this be fixed? It was so much better before. Thanks

Yeah thats right loads of dead links ..
But even wors freebee's from file storage site that screw up your system or invest your system with spy and greyware... R'O should BAN freebee's from those site's, because the freebee provider CAN NOT garantee the "Virus/spyware free" of the site where he puts its stuff.

Chris,
If you know of a specific site or sites that do this the best thing to do would be to report it to Administration and I'm certain it will be taken care of. I personally have never gotten anything from any dl's but I tend to over protect my HDDs so sometimes even what I want doesn't make it without help..heh heh heh

@drifterlee
Re: the dead links....I'm almost certain some form of communication went out informing folks that they had to up date their links but just today I had to help resolve one of those very issues. I will bring this up and maybe another message needs to be sent to the very generous uploaders....a pity to waste their generosity.....

well dont the freebee's get checked before admitting to the site...
Im not a moderator am i .... but when people get Big troubles by downloading freestuff true this site ..no matter what Tos you have ..you can be in lots of trouble ..
The only reason i mention this is because by "Dutch law and lots of other countrys" a site is still responsable for the trouble they made by hosting links to bad site's ..and a TOS can't help that .. A JUDGE will say if you'r TOS saves you from harm..
But i hope that it wont ever come to that... specialy in the US where people get 100.000 's of dollars from things like this....
Its like those sign in bars etc etc.. "the Bar/Boss/Owner is not resposible for losing jackets or other clothes" in the BAR... well that up to a JUDGE not that Boss/owner/site/provider..

Yes, all freebies are checked before approval.
However if a site subsequently starts displaying adware infested banners - which happens fairly easily if you're on a rotation system - then there may be problems down the line, which is why we ask you to report it so we can check it out.

Well ...do you know those site ..where you have to wait for 40 or 30 seconds before you MAY download the freebee ...never wondering WHY you have to DO NOTHING on the site for that time....

You have to look at the ads and read their sales pitch on why you should be a premium member. The timer method is an old internet marketing ploy and doesn't necessarily mean you're being infected.

Everything worked before the conversion. This is definitely a programming problem. For example, Richabri's Satin Studio no longer works.

No it does not ... but i had my system giving me big alarms when i visit some of these site's
While waitng ..they try to instal goodies on my system.. and more of those site are doing that then you can imagine...
Just a tip your HD should not spin/HD light ON during the wait .. if it does be carefull.
But on the other hand ..just do what you all think is best :}

The site itself is probably not installing anything to your site. However, sites like that are itching for new advertisers all the time....the perfect opportunity for an "advertiser" to slip a malicious script into an ad. Is the site at fault...kinda, because they're way too eager.
What I recommend is not using those types of hosting methods to host your freebies. There are still some very generous souls who will allow you to host your stuff.

Oh! Goodness it all sounds frightening, maybe I'll hold off downloading freebies, although I already went through the entire freebie section awhile ago (but after the change) when I got my new system and downloaded a huge amount both stuff I had before and also some new stuffs. I only got a few warnings and I generally kinda trust to faith. I've never (too my knowlege) downloaded a freebie yet that ended up screwing up my computer. I reckon most people honestly want to share their stuffs (and I thank them for it). Theres some pop-ups and stuff blocked from bad sites, and some of the older links are dead or down for service, but I leave them alone because the person generally either gets around to fixing them, or the site itself is no more and I figure for free stuff you take what's given while it's there and if you miss it, you miss it.
Heck I've got more stuff in my runtime then I know what to do with, and very little is commercial (I'm poor ... leave me alone...). Ironicly most of my favorites are stuff that's comparitivly older, but I think rather timeless. My thanks to all the great folks out their who continue to share and make wonderfull freebies for everyone to enjoy. ^^

As long as you use Firefox browser and a good anti-virus like ZoneAlarm, you shouldn't have anything to fear :-)

Ditto for me as well....that is in fact what I was implying in post three at the top of this thread. Guess I should have been more specific in order to ally these dl fears. As long as you practice safe computer useage by, as in life, protecting yourself before going in any where, you should not come down with any ComputerTransmittedDis-ease, or CTD's as I likes to refer to 'em.....

Download teh free Ad-aware from www.lavasoft.usa and Spybot Search and Destroy. This delete most spyware. Also empty both your browser's cache and your java cache (in Control Panel) and that will help a lot.
