Warming frozen hands;
Icy fingers thawed to life;
By the fire, I stand.

Sorry about the delay mamabobbijo, I guess I was dispirited by the lack of enthusiasm this once thriving series of haiku threads used to enjoy. I'm grateful to know that there's still people out there that are keen to participate. (Thanks also to you SueKlaus, nice work.)
Now, on with more haiku action. Keep those contributions coming ...

Are we still doing winter? I mean obviously you are but does the challenge remain the same? I love yours by the way. OK, Can they have more than one verse?
Strange days indeed!
In Massachusetts,
the winter,this year, brings us;
heat, rain, and flowers.
In California,
there was over a foot of snow!
What is a defrost?
Perhaps the Earth has
tilted off it's axis. Pluto
gains it's grand revenge!
BobbiJo McBroom
rug of freezing air
wraps the cold earth's stony face,
where will the poor sleep?
Thanks for keeping the Haiku going Drekinn! I've been travelling and painting, not had much time to write. That's some very good Haiku there..congratulations and greetings to everyone!
This crazy city...I'm wearing 4 layers of clothes, a huge jacket and I'm freezing in this cold office, thinking of Bob Dylan's 'Cold Irons Bound', and in a few months I'm going to be cooking in heat almost half the temperature of boiling water. No wonder everyone's so angry in this city with these extreme temperatures!
Wait for the first snow.
Locked in sleep, the Ice Fae dream.
Who will wake their Queen?
We have had 7 1/2 flakes of snow all winter, I don't mind but there are those who miss it dearly. I would be in heaven with just spring and fall. Not too hot not too cold, and everything blooming, or in colour.

Her face is aglow!
She sits enraptured by flakes,
Faerie magic falls.
Last year my grand daughter Mullaney Rose, was 1 1/2. I remember the first time we took her out to play in the snow. She keeps asking for it again. She thinks I cause the sun to rise and set, now she wants me to call the snow faeries, so they can drop magic from the sky.
BJ
:D BJ, that was a funny Haiku! I was wondering who would pick up that word. And that's right...where's Drekinn? Maybe he's working on an alliteration... That was an amazing thread, though I never got around to doing one there. And where's Margana? She's usually been on the Haiku threads?
morning has broken,
the sun stepped out on to the
frozen thin ice dawn
Dawn stifles a yawn;
Arises with a shiver:
Which, to all, will warn.

I'm back! Glad to read that I've been missed (it makes one feel all warm and fuzzy inside).
Sorry everyone about the hampered approach to my haiku contributions of late but I don't jump online all that often (though I suspect that will change in the not-too-distant future when I have cable within my grasp - drool).
hanevi: As it so happens I have indeed been nutting out yet another instalment of the ongoing (and seemingly unceasing) Alliteration Challenge, of which you can view here. As you can see they're becoming increasingly excessive. ;)
And yeah, where's that favourite literary sparring partner of mine, Margana? I'm sure she'll make an appearance before long.
Dinhi: Just a friendly reminder that a true haiku conforms to the 5-7-5 syllable rule, meaning the syllable count of the first and third lines should each total five syllables, and the second line a total of seven syllables. Wonderful imagery otherwise! Keep up the great work. :)
Lovely compositions everyone. I'm heartened to witness this sudden unexpected burst of enthusiasm for the haiku challenge once more.

Watch, see the moon rise?
Snow Fae cross it's face. Flakes fall,
Frozen faerie dust!
How did that happen? I logged on and responded to Dinhi's "morning", but before it posted there were three more posts so I'm rather out of order. I hope I'm supposed to tag on watch. Welcome back Drekinn! Thanks so much this is so fun!

Dust fallen snowflakes;
Shake the dawns early rising;
Moisture beads liquid.
They didn't teach syllables in Colleges....I am told it was somewhere between 1st and 3rd grade. I was home schooled through 7th grade and went right on into english comp...lol I get it now and the beauty of that is a reminder that learning is an event that will never stop!
Thanks Drekinn for the constructive crits!
Namaste...it's universal [ =
Liquid heat in mugs.
Hot chocolate with whipped cream foam.
Sweet moustaches.
One of my favorite things! I taught my grand daughter how to make it this year. I wrote a poem called The Potion about it. It's actually posted on RR. I'm rambling as I decide if I can really leave this. Yep if hanevi can leave emasculated someone will do something with this, I have faith in our little circle!
TAG you're it!
Chill closes in now
Cloud quilt covers the moon's face.
Snow falls at midnight.
I googled Haiku, I found out that there's a magazine devoted to the art called Geppo.
One of the authors has written an essay on how to write one, and added three of hers which have won best poem awards. They are quite good, but some of ours are just as good.

Don't be too chicken! Give it a go! I never did one before and had a hoot of a time! I think I was the last one, the letter is B and the theme is water! Have a go, there is no length it has to be... I think it will be just you and me anyway, Drekinn appeared to get board and do a bunch himself...LOL Perhaps we can breath life back into it!
Snow falls silent, cold;
Upon the rooftops packing;
Winter has arrived.
Namaste...it's universal [ =
Now comes the ice wind.
Frozen breath, sheathing the Earth,
in glistening gems.
Still no snow, but the entire plsce is covered in ice! The news estimated 6 million people in the USA are without power from north New Hampshire to Texas because of the icestorms. I'm lucky! It creates a beautiful if treacherous landscape. I've no where to go until Thursday night. Back to work then.
BJ
You guys! I forgot to get online yesterday, and now look at the queue! :D I'm amazed at some of these Haiku; they're excellent!
gems glisten pristine,
syllables form rainbow hued,
winter Haiku thread
Just a little tribute to Drekinn, one of the most intrepid Haiku people I've come across. My addiction pales in comparison, though its more closet! Thanks Drekinn for keeping the threads going since those summer months!
I have a collection of Japanese Haiku masters and, interestingly, a few of them occasionally break the syllable rule. Apparently, it's allowed, though it seems irregular, where the beauty and depth of the sentence can't be compromised to syllables, but they're rare. Sticking to the rule in our thread is helpful to build writing discipline, and also a greater challenge to get just the right word. :) I often find the 3-5-3 very challenging for the same reason, and also to explore Zen minimalistic concepts.
Where's Jon (jstro)? haven't seen him in a while...

Since everyone else seems to have been frozen into submission I thought I'd begin chiselling away at the ice and commence the next seasonal haiku challenge.
If you're new to the scene the idea is to fashion together a 5-7-5 syllable haiku using the last word of the previous haiku as the first word of the next.
I'll start the snowball rolling shall I ...
Winter has arrived;
Don your skates, go grab that sleigh,
Snowflakes fill the skies.
