Subject: artist names

Coppens ( ) posted Wed, 06 December 2006 at 2:21 PM · edited Wed, 27 November 2024 at 12:40 PM

When I file an image -- photography, Terragen a.o. -- I always file the image under the artist's real name. It used to be possible to find an artist's real name from his user name. After the whole conversion of the site I cannot  find the way to link user name to real name anymore.
Is this still possible at all...? If anyone knows...

Hi,

No we don't show the real names on the current member search. Sorry.

I suppose not. Only if the artist wants to show his/her real name

I appears at all the settings pages of Rosity as Casette, but the only place where I use my real info is in the credit card page at the marketplace when I'm going to pay an item. Obviously, 'Casette' doesn't appears in my VISA

Hi Stacey,

...I just sent a Renderosity artist a site mail to answer a question but as I do not know this person I had to address him by his user name. Somehow this does not seem right, or even polite...

Have a fine day,

George

I would respectfully disagree. The username is what that person has chosen as a way of representing themselves here at this site, and if they choose not to reveal their true names, I think it's very polite to address them by their user name as a show of respect for that choice. If a user supplies their actual name, for example by signing a forum post, I accept that as an invitation to use the real name.

I admit it can be awkward, particularly when you don't know the gender of the person you're addressing or referring to, but I think it's quite polite.

You may call me Jack, BTW, if you like. 😄

@ Jack,

Very many artists have, willingly,  provided their real name linked with their username but after the conversion all this has been removed by the staff. Thanks for your point of view anyway!

Have a fine day, Jack!

i only give away my real name if someone PM's me - i sign my response to them with my real name....

as of a couple of months i've been signing off on my gallery images with my real name also. some people want to protect their privacy .... i dont mind people knowing my real name - since some of those people have become friends.

Maybe with the conversion - Renderosity has given members the option to get their privacy back or the option to do so if they choose.

the who's online list only has usernames on it also....

and the member search option when you look for someone with their username - the result is their username, date of joining, their location and links to their gallery, homepage etc.....
