Has anyone gotten the "Updo" hair style on DAZ? If so, what do you think of it? It looked a little "weird" from the images -- that double ghosting effect. Hmmm.... maybe Kozaburo, aka Hair God, needs to fix this one too. =) Hehe... maybe they should just run all new hair by him for approval and or fixes. =)

i just Got it this morning from DAZ the trasnparency maps are VERY High rez doing a simple render of this hair brought my G3 to a choking crawl even with 200mb of RAM Allocated to Poser Pro i also bought the wedge cut for michael its pretty nice. Mocap

I love the wedge cut. Does the updo look as bad as the images in the DAZ store when you rendered it? I'm talking specifically about the weird "shadow" look. Look at the arrows in the picture to see what I mean.

I believe those are jsut different layers of hair

I admit that i did not buy the updo hair because this ghosting effect and bad rendering on the display image at DAz.It strange that the marketing doer at Daz did not see it .

If someone had hair like that they should hide in a corner. How could Daz try to sell it. I looks like _______?

Taura Noxx posted Sat, 07 April 2001 at 9:32 PM

with a little post work it comes out great! check it out. http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=45211&Start=1&Artist=Taura%20Noxx&ByArtist=Yes but then some people dont do post work so I can see why you would be wary about it. Maybe a few morphs for that top bit might work to make it more spikey or smoother. hmmmm might try that out myself one of these days. But all in all, I think its great.

Im with you brother This is a render with the transmaps scaled back some. and it beats the hell out of the "playdough" look. Mocap

I haven't bought any of the Daz hair, I think that they are all ugly. I did buy the hollywood hair through Daz though, that is the best hair I've seen. Tex is so easy too, just straight lines.

casamerica posted Sun, 08 April 2001 at 1:22 AM

If Daz is going to be serious about selling their hair, they really need to consider contacting Kozaburo or Catharina about doing the texture maps for them. None of the in-house textures have come close to what either of these two artists do. I do buy Daz hair, but their textures always require a great deal more post work than others. You have two talented, highly respected artists who have proven their abilities over and over again. Daz is crazy not to see if they are willing to lend their services... for a price, of course. ;-) Oh, well...

I agree to taura noxx, with some postwork it looks good.and i reduced the transsettings for only the hairpart ookami put the arrows on.my only complaint is,that you cant remove the strands that is in front of the eyes without moving the other strands.only way to do this, is editing the transmap

thgeisel posted Sun, 08 April 2001 at 3:55 AM

Just a short one, no postwork.I aplied the blackmap. Charakter is Jae

Taura Noxx posted Sun, 08 April 2001 at 4:19 AM

ok, here is one pulled straight out of the box so to speak. That is absolutley no post work. Just a straight out plop the hair on. What is different is that with the hair you get these pose things to change textures and styles somewhat. This is the "no-bun-mess" texture pose applied. Not exactly one of my best renderings hehehehe but it gives you an idea of what it can do. There is also poses for no-neck-mess and no-burn-mess, ie. the hairs in those areas are not as messy and the shadows less evident.

ookami posted Sun, 08 April 2001 at 4:34 AM

Thanks Taura... that looks MUCH better!

Taura Noxx posted Sun, 08 April 2001 at 4:40 AM

I just realised there is also a pose for no front-mess. Once again this is just to demonstrate.

shadowcat posted Sun, 08 April 2001 at 8:10 AM

I still think that it looks ugly and that Burton (hollywood hair) does better work, If he made more I'd buy those.

Ghostofmacbeth posted Sun, 08 April 2001 at 9:52 AM

I like it for variation ... Nothing against the Burton hair but it is a very simple style. It just happens to be one that people like.

MallenLane posted Sun, 08 April 2001 at 10:19 AM

I think msot people don't realize that straight hair thats not tied-up, curled, or otherwise styled is extremely easy to make.

Jim Burton posted Sun, 08 April 2001 at 2:59 PM

Thanks shadowcat! I have a Vickie item that should be up at DAZ next week, after that I'm going to do a Supermodel Vickie set, after that plans are hair. Maybe a short do that would be suitable for Michael (and the Dork) as well as the ladies, as well as some longer hair. I've got some new ideas for my hair "system". Hollywood hair has been very good for me! One thing I like to see in hair is a part on the side, not in the middle, so the sides aren't mirror images. This just about doubles the work, at least the way I do it, but I like the way it looks.

Taura Noxx posted Sun, 08 April 2001 at 4:05 PM

well hey there Jim, if you need someone to help test, just message me :) hehehehehe be more than willing ;-)

casamerica posted Sun, 08 April 2001 at 5:21 PM

I still think that it looks ugly and that Burton (hollywood hair) does better work, If he made more I'd buy those.<<< Shadowcat, agreed. I have yet seen a render of the Daz Updo hair that I could show a client without blushing. >>>I think msot people don't realize that straight hair thats not tied-up, curled, or otherwise styled is extremely easy to make.<<< Understood, MallenLane. However, Anton's latest release truly puts the Daz Updo to shame. There is simply no comparison. And I would not call what Anton has done with his latest release to be easy. Daz does a lot of things very, very well. Hair, IMHO, does not appear to be one of them. The geometries seem good. The transmaps... need help.

Kozaburo where are you, hehehe :)
