is there a way to make the picture render the way i see it? becuase it renders very cartoonish, and i can never get it to look the way that i am seeing it.

Make sure in your render settings that its not set to render cartoon style

Can you post a picture of what you are getting? It's hard to guess, as well as being in cartoon mode or using OpenGL rendering it's possible that the highlight settings are wrong for D|S, causing everything to be washed out.

Another possibility, one that I ran into when I was getting started, is poser light sets in Studio.
With graphics card limitations, not all the lights would/will show for me, I thought what I was seeing is what would render ..... nope. Poser light sets are painfully bright in Studio, and it can wash everything out to a near toon-ish amount.
As has been said, posting the results of one of your renders would really help, as there are sooo many possible answers.

Just render the image like you normally do Alex, and let us see..maybe someone can tell you what is going on that way after looking at it. :)
