Hi,
Okay, admittedly I'm new - searched through this forum for the last couple of hours for an answer to this issue (searched using "parameter dials" and "disabled" and now am convinced I'm the only one with this problem.
Anyway, I have these parameter dials that suddenly stop working, and the figure resets itself to the default setting, say like in the breasts, where I have made V3 say a size 4 (.25) - this has been reset to 0.000 and changing the number doesn't seem to affect the target any. All I did was save it, close it, and bring it back up again. Did my .cr2 spit the dummy? Is there something I can do (even going in and fixing it using like Programmer's File Editor, which can open huge files) to make them work again? Or, is there a FAQ I should be reading?
Thanks so much to any who respond!
Cheers,
Robyn

don't know if this helps much, but if you click on the numbers themselves, you can enter values that will work the same way. Give it a shot I guess..

This has happened to me a couple of times also since Poser 7 and Victoria 4 (would be helpful for you to specify version of Poser, what figures). In my case it seemed likely because I applied some V3 settings via pose file to V4 (specifically, turned off IK for hands, which is inappropriate for V4 anyway). I ended up having to fall back to a previous file version.

I had a similar problem after installing Poser 7 and Poser 6 at the same time. The morphs would work fine with Poser 6, but with Poser 7 (AND pointing to the Poser 6 Runtime) it wouldn't work. After some feedback from someone else, and some digging of my own, I realized that if the injections make use of a Python script, and those injections are not in the default runtime directory, the Python scripts don't get called -- a problem since they probably all use relative paths.
So I had two options:
This may, or may not help you, but this is the problem I ran into. It could also just be that the file with the character in it is somehow corrupt, and you just need to make a new scene, or the content just needs to be reinstalled, or both.

I've had this problem before in Poser 6. By trying to repeat the problem I've found the following two reasons for parameter "lock"
Sometimes my morphs revert to zero immediately after I save a file and the "save as..." dialogue box disappears. Pose and Camera and Lights are not affected, only the morph dials on the body and head of my figure. This doesn't happen often and I'm not sure why this occurs but I found that I can just close the current file and then open the version I just saved and everything is fine (the correct morphs were saved).
Secondly, I've had parameters lock after adding and deleting a lot of other figures in the scene. Say for example I bring up a figure and add morphs and then add a character set... then add and delete a bunch of clothes and hair figures and props (tests for myself or the client)... When I go back to make edits to the figure body and head dials, they are all stuck with the current morphs and don't change. I can change rotations and bends for body parts, but body part morph dials no longer work. The only way I've been able to get over this is to go back to a previous save and redo the lost work.
I just got Poser 7, so maybe these bugs will be fixed.

Thank you pakled, pjz99 and androge...
...pakled, it makes no difference whether I enter numbers with the keyboard or twiddle the dial. Nothing moves.
You are absolutely correct, pjz99 - I should have clarified version. I'm using Poser 6 with SR2. Based on what I've read here on this forum, I'm not eager to move to the next version yet.
...and androge: where the problem seems to occur is on characters that are based on a modified V3 SAE - ie, a lot of morphs have been done and even a Face_off, Morris HyperReal run against the character. Hmmm, not sure if that's clear. Let me explain. I've developed certain characters (based on V3 SAE) with eyes from one package (Mandy Celebrity) and skin textures by Face_off/Morris (HyperReal) and so forth. Don't think that's too unusual. All the morphs I need are included in the character as well, which is saved both as a .cr2 and a .pz3/.pmd files combo. I've had a chance to look at .pz3 files but can't seen to figure out which channels are active and usable (will manipulate) and which won't, and what the flag is that decides that - I know the hidden flag needs to be set to 0 in order to see the parameter dial, but I don't think that this affects what can be changed and what can't.
I'll have another look to see if there are any relative references to Scripts (which I'm going to assume HyperReal is) and change the path to absolute and see if that fixes it.
BTW, is there a FAQ that discusses corrupted .pz3 files and what can be done to resurrect them?
Cheers,
Robyn

Hi orodreth,
Seems the secret is frequent saves. I've been puzzled by this behaviour - I just finish saving a file, and when I close Poser 6 it prompts me to save the file I had just saved (hadn't made any changes to it at all). It must be resetting all my parameters to zero and locking them. I'll tick 'Don't Save' the next time that happens and see if this cuts down on the number of occurences of this problem.
Cheers,
Robyn
