Although I love 3dreams stuff and would love to register on his site to get his freebies it isn't going to happen as long as he asks for my real name and birthdate. Why would someone who is giving items away need your birthdate? He is covered for whatever he shows as long as you state you are old enough. That is just TOO much info to give to someone I don't know. Thanks but no thanks. Would also like to sign up for AS_Shanim's site but unfortunately it hangs then kicks me back to the I want to register page.
Oh well.

shouldn't you take that up directly with 3dream rather than making a stink in the forum...
Marque posted Sun, 07 January 2007 at 10:12 AM
It's my right to state it here if you don't like it don't read it. This is a poser forum and this is about poser items so lay off.

It's my right to point out this is an inappropriate venue for you to badmouth a pretty good vendor over something so petty, as well. So nanny nanny boo boo.
spedler posted Sun, 07 January 2007 at 10:55 AM
Actually, I sympathise with Marque over this. I did register but I felt it was a little bit intrusive. Of course, there's no obligation to give accurate info. Though you'll find that his site won't accept anyone over 80 years old, and I wonder how many John Smiths are on the database!
With real concerns about identity theft nowadays (and this is not in any way implying for a moment that 3dream would ever do such a thing) I think everyone should be careful about releasing personal information unless you are absolutely certain they can be trusted - and perhaps more to the point, that their own systems which store your data are secure.

That sounds like something my niece would say....sheesh. I NEVER badmouthed him, before you make a statement like that you need to SCROLL UP AND READ. I said I love his stuff. Button up until you can say something worth hearing.
Seems like a waste of his time to even do it since like you say Steve there are probably a ton of John Smiths on his site...lol Thanks for the tip though!

I agree. While I appreciate free items, I do not like "jumping through hoops" to get them.
Marque posted Sun, 07 January 2007 at 11:25 AM
Actually I made a mistake it's pretty3D's site that I have the problem with not 3Dream. Love his stuff too btw just hate that these folks want to know so much. Basically if they don't have it together on their security everything you input could be grabbed by someone. But no worries will just lie from now on as suggested by Steve...an a great suggestion it was!

The saddest thing is that the numerous scam artists, spammers, phishing cons, etc. etc. that are so common on the net now have tended to make people conceal their true IDs in self defense. So that even when I would otherwise be quite happy to fill in accurate info for all the sites I sign up to, I'm really reluctant to do so if it isn't absolutely necessary.
(Oh, and yes I also mentioned 3dream in my first post - I think it was pretty3d's site in fact as Marque says. Apologies to 3dream.)

Now it says that BOTH of my emails are already in use, and I can't find his email on his site to ask why. Went in to register as someone else and it says they are in use....by who I would sure like to know. Think I'm done with free stuff. Steve if you can find his email can you kick it to me? Very nervous about this.
spedler posted Sun, 07 January 2007 at 12:29 PM
Most of the emails I get from pretty3d come from rosity@pretty3d.com - you could try that one?
Steve
Marque posted Sun, 07 January 2007 at 12:35 PM
Thanks will try it!
Marque posted Sun, 07 January 2007 at 12:38 PM
Sent him an email under both so he would know it is me. Thanks again Steve.

Just because the information is asked, doesn't mean you have to provide the real thing. When it comes to billing information, yes, but personal information about yourself just to use a forum or to look at a gallery or to download a freebie, no.
Also, just a piece of good advice based on something a friend told me about a few weeks ago. When you register at a site, don't use the same password as your email address or bank login! Case in point. My friend has an MSN Group and one of her managers registered at the website of a former member of that group who left on bad terms. The girl was foolish enough to use her main password, and the site owner took that information and was able to use it to gain access to my friend's MSN Group and delete it.
Always use different passwords. Keep a record of them by your computer or in a notepad file (I use a notepad file).

Yipe! No I use a different password for each site but that is a point WELL taken.
jjsemp posted Sun, 07 January 2007 at 2:07 PM
The problem: You visit a lot of web sites that want you to create a username and password, but you don't want to use the same username/password combination over and over again. How do you remember so many unique username/passwords without going crazy?
The solution: I HIGHLY recommend ROBOFORM (www.roboform.com) for easy password management, protection against phishing web sites, and quick, unique passport generation. There's a version you can try for free. It eliminates the need to remember a lot of unique username/passwords for the many web sites you visit. Sometimes I don't remember that I've visited a web site before until Roboform tells me that I've already created a username/password for it.

I guess you are now a moderator pjz99? How lame you are to continually monitor every thread for any slight mistake and jump on that person for it. I said I was sorry but that's just not enough for you. Get a life. I was not the only one who made a mistake if you will notice.
Ban me if you will moderators but I am sick to death of this person.

What absolutely astounds me is people have the audacity to complain about free content.
You’re lucky there are people out there willing to support the so called Poser ‘community’ at all!
And honestly, is it such an arduous task to complete an online form? Not nearly as time consuming as 3D modelling I would wager.
A little reflection and hopefully you will realise the world and it’s inhabitants were not put here to serve you.
And at the risk of sounding like an afternoon special (too late)...grow up!

I'd say that more than just one person needs to grow up here; also a few busy-bodies who insist on poking their noses into everyone elses business; and certain other, who on the faintist whiff of criticism insist on having hissy-fits.
As also for banning forum members for holding certain opinions, I thiink that Stahlratte's banning was enough for the next two centuries.
Now, having poked my own nose into something whee it doesn't belong, I shall withdraw it.
