I am new at this so I hope someone can help me. When I apply some but not all hair objects they look like this! Could anybody please tell me how to fix this?

That's a consequence of the different ways Poser and D|S handle transparency  -the maker has left a transparency map on the surfaces that should be opaque, because in Poser it doesn't have any effect - in D|S it does (in most cases, as here, it makes the surface wholly transparent).

Go to the Surfaces palette (View>Tabs>Surfaces)  and use the drop-down list at the top to find the hair, then look for a surface name under that sounds as if it should be the body of the hair. Select it and in the Opacity section of the palette click the button with the file name and select None instead of the file name. If that doesn't bring at least some of the hair up (leaving the areas you can currently see as loose strands over the top) undo and try another material name. Once you are donw, save as a material preset so that you can easily reapply the fix in future.
