Hi,
I've just bought Carrara 5 Pro of the DAZ site and started to download bit. Now,bearing in mind that the connection I've got here at work is a 1gig pipe I'm looking at a xfer rate of 14.4kb/sec.and a projected d/load time of5hr 44min I ask you!!I know for a fact that there's nothing wrong at my end so it makes me wonder-are the DAZ servers struggling to xfer files 'cause of all the people taking advantage of the super price and let's face it,it is a good price at the moment or..... have DAZ turned the wick down in the hope that we'll give up and order the cd version thereby gretting a bit more back from us?

I ordered the Pro version with Archi tools for me and the Basics version for my daughter the second day of the promotion, and I had everything downloaded and burned to CD (did it myself, thank you :) in less than an hour. That includes the time I took to strip out all the French readmes and other things I was never going to use so I could fit the program and extra content on one disk.
I'd say the word got out and their servers are straining :D

At these prices you're complaining?

I had similar probs when I bought Carrara5 from Eovia(pre-DAZ) during a special promotion. The price wasn't nearly as good as the present deal, though Eovia's servers were straining to keep up with demand. When E-Frontier gave away Poser5, I had to wait in the download que for over two weeks. I am sure that DAZ's server capacity is also being sorely tested at the moment.
The bad part of this is that it seems everyone and their Grandmother is trying to D/L and take advantage of this deal before it expires. The good side is that this shows that there is a demand for Carrara and more users= more incentive for DAZ to push development for the next ver.

I've seen the same slowdown when they have a really good freebie.
It makes me think there must be a market to add capacity on demand. I don't imagine anyone wants to pay extra for hardware or service that they don't need all the time.
But I'm not in IT, so what do I know. Maybe there is a solution out there. ;)

Max, it was like when they put bryce 6 and something else on the market. I know my broadband connection isn't the fastest in the world but at that time i was getting a xfer rate of 12.3KB/sec from a 1500KB/sec(1.5MB/sec) connection. So i held of for 3 days and then got the download in at a much quicker xfer rate.
Its server overload which will cause this...everyone grabbing the downloads at the same time
I have opinions of my own -- strong
opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.

Two words for DAZ. More Server Mirrors!, well, ok, three words.
