Subject: Warning about long path names in P7

Just a warning. It seems even in Poser 7 that it can't find object (and possibly texture) files if the pathnames are too long. So don't go naming your runtimes things like "My favorite stuff from Renderosity". The problem is that it will cut off the last part of the file name, and say something like "I can't find Mandy_hair_ban", which of course it can't because it is "Mandy_hair_bangs", but if you find "Mandy_hair_bangs" for it, it hates it because it isn't "Mandy_hair_ban", and it hangs.

i believe it is 144 characters max per line.

it was a probem i had when i moved my runtimes to "my documents". (c:documents and settingstygerMy DocumentsMy poserruntimes...)

It made the path too long on some stuff so i moved my rutimes to c:runtimes

that cut about 50 characters out of the path :-)

I actually created a folder in the Root directory of my C drive named Runtimes.  When I get ready to zip up a project I move all the relevant folders into that Runtime, maintaining the Poser structure so that when I zip things up they zip from the Runtime.

When I make my pz2 files I also change the paths to relative so that they only show from the Runtime as well.

As for naming my external runtimes, those are identified by content (V4, V3, SP3, Hair - that kind of thing).

Hadn't realised that Poser 7 would have this problem.  Will bear that issue in mind when organising my external runtimes. Thanks for pointing it out, AnAardvark.

Thank you for sharing that useful information. I was bound to hit that sometime so now I am pre-warned I'll know what happened.

That explains a LOT!! Thanks.

I keep getting textures and transparancies mixed up. I now suppose the _TR gets dropped off the end.

Another one for SR1 I hope!
