Here I am, playing with a new robot.

I wouldn't normally post anything so early in construction, but I'm only home at the weekends (internet connection where my own PC can connect to the net, rather than a college PC) plus I'm enjoying playing with new material creation at the same time.

Here I've made a nice corroded pitted rusty metal, could be copper, but there's no verdigris in it yet. That's the robot body.
Then there's a slightly damaged, but still shiny steel; that's on the slit going around the robot body, and on the two ball joint connectors on the rod/arm. Which has a lovely hot new coppery metal texture on it.  (I love copper)

Now I'm just wondering how to make a claw out of Bryce primatives...

Anyone got any ideas?

(Oh, meant to say; I'm using Bryce6)

You just have to start molding those primitives....  Textures sometimes can add body shape to the boolean unions...

Thin cylinders; one positive, one negative, grouped.

The negative one off center (one unit down Y and one unit over X), then that group duplicated two more times, and those groups made off center in the same 1 unit fashion.

Then the 3 groups made wider by 10 more units,

Simplistic, but might get the mental ball rolling.  ;o)

I had a try at it, this method gives a rounded type of claw:

Not sure what your method involves AS.  I can't picture it from your image.  Your image looks like a belt to me.  How would you turn that into a claw?

Here's the claw on the arm: decided to reduce the length of the arm a bit...

When I think claw, I think curved. Probably comes from being attacked so much from the cat, lol.

Your robot claw though is perfect, imho.

Well my claw is *sort of* curved, but it's also a bit stumpy... not sure if I like it or not.

I'd still like to know how you did yours.

Here's some more of my robot - he still needs another arm though... not sure what to put on that.

Mine;

Imagine a coin sized, positive clinder, then duplicate the cylinder, make it negative, & move it downwards and to the right (screen-wise).

After I group (boolean) the two cylinders together, I elongated the entire group.

Then...I duplicated that group, I raised it above the first group and brought it over to the left (screen-wise), & reduced its "depth" (by half) to make it even thinner. Then I did that action again, so in the end there are a total of three groups.

I think I see now... But what's that lovely texture you used on it? - looks a bit like tyre tread.

I'd love to know how you made that.

Aha, just shows that you really should investigate the new stuff in B6.

Yeah, the new library setup is cool, but it lends itself to more digging, lol.

Part of it's finding the time.  I'm just so busy right now, what with creating sets and models for my own short film here at college and starting next week I'll be working for a film company making sets for their new film.

That's just 2 weeks, and it's not paid work, but you get a copy of the film on DVD for your showreel and your name in the credits, plus of course all that valuable experience of working on a professional film.
