AP Final Harry Potter book due out in July

2 hours, 1 minute ago.

LONDON - "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," the last of seven installments of the boy wizard's adventures, will be published July 21, author J.K. Rowling said Thursday.

Rowling announced the publication date on her Web site.

Bloomsbury, her British publisher, said it would publish a children's hardback edition, an adult hardback, a special gift edition and an audio book on the same day.

Scholastic Children's Books, the U.S. publisher, said it would offer a hardback edition at a suggested retail price of $34.99, a deluxe edition at $65.00 and a reinforced library edition at $39.99.

Bloomsbury noted that this year is the 10th anniversary of the publication of the first "Harry Potter" book in the phenomenally successful series.

The "Potter" books have sold 325 million copies worldwide and been translated into 64 languages, Bloomsbury said.

The last book, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," sold 2,009,574 copies in Britain on the first day of its release, Bloomsbury said.

The Potter franchise is so important to the company's earnings that it announced the publication to the London Stock Exchange.

Bloomsbury shares were up 2.2 percent to $4.40 after the announcement.

I've known about this for some time - perks of being on Muggle.net and part of Borders Rewards and Amazon.com. :)

On related OT news, Harry Potter portrayer Daniel Radcliffe is doing a play in London bearing all.  The play is Equus and he is going to be working in his birthday suit.

Yeah, I'm still a big puddle of 🤤 over those promo pix ... along with just about everyone else on LJ and the Yahoo fan groups. Well, except for the morons who believe he really is Harry Potter, not an actor, and therefore should not be appearing in any of those "disgusting kiddypr0n/bestiality shows".   Honestly, did they think he was never going to grow up? Er, forget I asked that, as it's painfully obvious none of them have grown up, nor are they ever likely to ... unfortunately. Please note, btw, these are parents and not children who apparently cannot tell the difference between A REAL HUMAN BEING OF LEGAL AGE and A FICTIONAL (MAKE-BELIEVE) CHARACTER FROM A BOOK/MOVIE.  I don't know whether I should laugh my tailfeathers off at the sheer stupidity or hex them all polka-dotted for being such dunderheads. Hm, now that I think of it, I know what Snape would do and I am a Slytherin, so ... :sneaky:

Yeah, I've read those ridiculous rants as well.  It's as if his portrayal in the movie constitutes a binding contract that he never act in anything else and always be type-casted as HP.  Very pathetic.

By the way, he is an admirer of Henry Rollins and he reminds me more and more of him as he gets older.  HR is a great guy, but I wouldn't be as happy if Daniel were to go for the "Neo-Nazi" 50" neck build - that's just too much.  Then he'll only be type-casted into Neo-Nazi rolls... :)

One thing to think about: under UK law has the same age-limit on child porn as the US, and if I have DR's birth date right he's still under-18. Some of those pictures are very close to the limits. Mind you, he's definitely not the sort of young man one would be inclined to kick out of bed in the morning. And one doesn't hear any bad stories about him as a person. Equus also looks like a smart move, career-wise. High-quality drama, and so very different to HP.

Byrdie posted Thu, 01 February 2007 at 3:47 PM

Exactly, he doesn't want to be typecast like so many other actors we all could name. Especially the ones who started out in children's films. Very smart career move, imo. And "Equus" is drama, not "adult entertainment", although it does deal with mature subjects. Had I any kids under the age of 16, say, I wouldn't take them to see it. Not because of the nudity but they probably wouldn't be ready for something like that -- unless they were all literary nuts like me, of course, that would make a big difference. Then they'd appreciate it for more than the "Oooh! Naked People! Sex!" factor ... although that too has its appeal. ;-)
And I really don't think if D.R. is under age in his country, the law there would permit him -- or any other teen actor -- to do any so-called porn, not even the soft-core/erotica stuff. Just as the law in the U.S. and Canada (and elsewhere) doesn't allow it, if it were what those people claim, the production would've been shut down right away. That it hasn't been and won't be is proof enough for me.

I have seen Equus on stage, and it was booooring, LOL!  At least porn would have been a tad more exciting...  So no, I can't see what all the commotion is about.  The bit of his skin?  Puleese, I saw more than that when my sons ran around the house!

Well, considering all the frakas they made over Janet Jackon's wardrobe "malfunction" and that was just a little flash of nipple ...
I guess some people really do have their minds in the gutter all the time.
