Your Render challenge must have the dominant subject be Glass. The image can be any subject matter, but a major part of must be made of glass. The more computer torturing "Reflection, refraction" the better.

Here is an example at the link, and I know HDRI was used but it's the Glass "BAUBLE" that dominates the image.

Glass bubbles
Glass Slippers
Glass Chess Pieces
Glass Underwear...Umm, maybe not such good idea.
But you get the picture.

Imports & Post work is fine.

Have Fun!!!

I will also be creating and Upload page, which is where you would actually upload/enter your image into the Challenge.

That will will be up tomorrow.

ICM (or opinions from anyone) - With Challenges two months long, should multiple entries be allowed?

*With Challenges two months long, should multiple entries be allowed?

*My opinion is no. Unless you would stipulate that the Pros (anyone who has won a challenge) only be allowed one entry. Multiple entries from the best would make it darn near impossible for anyone else to stand a chance of finishing in the top 3. So to be fair, I vote for just 1 entry per person. (how many of my cents is that?).

Hrm, what's the thing about putting a notice of the challenge in Renderosity's main page, in the contest section? There's some cellphone contest there, and a Rhino one. Maybe we can put our Bryce one there and attract some Brycer's who don't normally hang out at this here forum?

jchristenberry posted Thu, 15 March 2007 at 7:34 AM

Ok folks, I have been working at this for a week now and I have come to two conclusions...

  1. There is no way I am going to submit anything done in bryce again!

2.  I hate Bryce!  I have been grinding on this pic for so long, my laptop has 756 MB of RAM.  It keeps crashing bryce and saying things like, Out of Memory.  My comp at home is saying THE SAME THING and it has 3Gig of RAM.  Conclusion, Bryce is the suxours and I am sticking with Vue!

I just wish there was some way to get DAZ to work with Vue.  Just think, the two fastest and best rendering progs out there working in unison!  Ahhh a little slice of artistic heaven!

Best of luck to all of you who have the patience to deal with 'Out of Memory' Errors and constant crashes... When I get the time I will redo the pic I origionally wanted to in VUE, c ya!

drawbridgep posted Thu, 15 March 2007 at 8:23 AM

Just a quicky.  Do any of the textures you're using have really long names?   Cause that used to cause problems.

If Bryce isn't working out for you and you like DAZ, have you considered Carrara?  It is, as we say in the land of my father, The Dogs!

Death_at_Midnight posted Thu, 15 March 2007 at 11:09 AM

Hrm... as for me, I LOVE Bryce :-)

The interface is awesome... I loathe clutter. Don't like four views on the screen at once. If possible, that's the first thing I eliminate from a program.

This glass challenge is supposed to make the computer smoke and be pushed to the limit. It's a great challenge and the most fun I've had in a while. Rendering with a purpose, it's cool.

When I'm Brycing, I'm in hog heaven!

Analog-X64 posted Fri, 16 March 2007 at 8:54 AM

I agree with everyone as well.  The Glass Render Theme is a good challenge for Bryce or any rendering software.  Its a real number cruncher for sure.

I've been a fan of Bryce since it was just Bryce and than Bryce 3D :), but I also use Carrara just like Phil said its The Dogs!!

Both Bryce and Carrara compliment each other very nicly.

jchristenberry posted Fri, 16 March 2007 at 1:12 PM

I may check out carrara, but as far as this challenge goes, there is just no way Im gonna make it.  I like bryce's interface too, but I dont mind the four screens either, make moving things simpler (at times.)  I just wish DAZ (being quick and efficient) would work with Vue (being the best rendering engine I have ever used.)

jchristenberry posted Sat, 17 March 2007 at 1:47 PM

I dont know about the texture names being an issue or not...though that does explain why sometimes certain textures just wont show up half the time.  But I found a way where I can do this challenge and still keep my sanity.  For any of you having similar issues and want an alternative route, here is what I am doing;  Rendering a background in Vue.  Turning said background into a HDRI map.  Taking my model from DAZ into Bryce along with the new HDRI...render...clean...submit.  Time consuming yes, but at least I can get to the rendering part now! LOL

Thandaluz posted Sat, 17 March 2007 at 2:26 PM

Be permitted an observation:
Hundreds of artists that use Bryce exist, few they send your works.
Or the challenge forest same Bryce, or he/she is not having a lot of importance.
The Theme is excellent.

Instead of we be discussing the quality of Bryce and comparing with other tools, because we didn't address our efforts in the competition?
We will make Bryce to work at the most, our imagination can help...
Bryce, Vue, Carrara, Poser, Terragem..... they are great tools.... but excellent same they are the artists that use them....
I would like to see a challenge in Pure Bryce.... the challenge would be much more gratifying....

Art is to be enjoyed, the quality is relative....
Excuse for the relief.

Burpee posted Mon, 26 March 2007 at 7:36 PM

@Thandaluz, that is a grand idea for a challenge.

@jchristenberry.....I find that large texutre files will crash my Bryce.  The Daz skeleton with the grungy mats crashes it every time.  If you reduce the size of the texture jpg, it makes a big difference.  Change your objects to 'show as box' inside the 'A' atrributes popup.  Make sure to always close Bryce and reboot if you had a crash.  Make sure to save your Bryce file as many names as you go along.  I also save my Daz object as a scene within Daz before importing....saved me many times.
DazStudio crashes on me more than Bryce does.  I do not think it's that efficient at all.  Heck, I had Vue crash on me the other day....albiet, it doesn't do it every often...probably operator error.  But it did happen :)

Well I finally posted something in the competition, though I think its crap and only posted it to say I actually did.  The pic I was TRYING to make in bryce and just wouldnt happen is now posted in my gallery...its called "Kissed by the Rain."  I finished it in Vue instead.

Crashing.. I have never actually had DAZ crash on me, or Vue for that matter.  Bryce on the other hand..........no comment.
