I tried re-finding it, but there were a few posts on the applying a texture, getting the "bum" error, which i remember was prevalent in P4.  I had written this eons ago and forgot about it, but it might be useful now again.  Though written for p4, it should work in any version I would imagine.  Hope its helpful!
