If the model is in *.3ds format, then yes it will import. If it is in *.max format, then maybe ask the store/modeler who made it to provide it in 3ds format. Last thing to try is the demo version of 3D studio. The demo is not limited on save/export functions.

Depending on how the mesh was modelled, it may not be converted to 3ds if it is in max. ( symmetry objects don't export well, for axample.)

Can you provide a link to the model in which you are interested? That way, some of us MAX users could assess whether we are capable of converting it or not. Bruno021 is correct, there are some issue involved in MAX conversions........

Ahhh, trillium36's great work! RICHARD, I believe that you can go to her own web page and ask her for a model in Vue file format. Here's the link to her web page. http://www.trillium36.com/Botanical/Botanical.htm You'll find a place at the bottom of the main page where you can send her an e-mail. She used to sell her work here on Renderosity too, so you might look around here a bit. And, if not, ... she did use an older version of MAX, so I suspect that I could convert the files for you, should you have to purchase them at Squid. I have purchased many of her plants in the past, before I learned how to model myself. I never experienced any problems in converting her models from one format to another. They are made in very high quality fashion. You'll like these. (And by the way, I think you only need one of these - not both.) Anyhow, try sending her a note. Also, keep in mind that all the model-builders hanging out at Cornucopia3D keep a sharp on on the "What's On Your Wishlist?" thread there. About 90% of the "wishes" have been fulfilled - one of us usually picks these wishes up and makes the desired models. But trillium's work is wonderful. Go take a try at writing her a request for a Vue formatted bird-of-paradise, first.

Hmm! When I type in "Bird of paradise" at Turbosquid I get 14 items, some of which are in 3ds and lwo, both of which Vue can use!
The 3ds version which looks just like a max one is $30 though instead of $20!
Injustice will be avenged.

Richard, why don't you get your bird of paradise in the vob format at Cornucopia3D? Just follow the link.RICHARD posted Tue, 06 February 2007 at 9:21 AM
the one at cornucopia doesnt have leaves, and isnt in full bloom like the one at turbosquid for 21.00 3dsmax file.an i cant see paying 10.00 more dollars for the 3ds and obj one.

Richard, you may have to wait a few days for a reply from trillium36. If this doesn't work, or if you are needing it now, please send me a private note to forester@mountainflight.us. I'll try to make the conversion for you. But send me a note - I'll go over some of the "but it might not work" possible qualifications with you before you invest in this.
