Right now I'm using Vicky3 holding her V3SWAT Handgun which has a yellow 'surefire' type illumination piece on the underside of the handguns barrel portion of the the slide, directly in front of the the trigger gaurd. Now I've mastered making the yellow light red (yeehaw!,big accomplishment). But how can I make that once yellow , now crimson red into a laserstyle beamshot lasersight???
I'm sure its one of these thousands of settings/ here and/or there. So can someone help me out? please?

setting diffuse to high values will give a sort of glowy effect.
I believe there are some free laser thype materials at Runtimedna.

Ive used laser sites in some of my images made from primitives/cylinder, you will need to scale it down to about 1.5 or 2 % and then turn up the y_scale to what ever you need (any thing over 100000) pose it to where you want it in the gun, and then parent it to the gun. Next go to the material room. Set the diffuse_color to what ever you want the laser beam color to be, diffuse-value to 1. specular _value to 0. ambient to a darker colour than the diffuse_color. Ambient_value to .3 . set transparency to .75 and transparency_edge to .25
And that should about do you, have a play around with the settings to find what suits you most.
good luck

quick and dirty cheat: Look for the black ray rifle (I think it's by Dodger?) in freebies (or was), it comes with a beam prop. not sure if it's what you're looking for, but it's out there.

You might try Raven's method as outlined in this thread herre: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?thread_id=2680561

The thing about a laser is that you only see it from the scattering of light by dust particle. And, at weapon powers, from the heating of the air. So I'd look at using one of the noise-like nodes (granite, noise, cellular, marble, clouds--there's a lot of choice) to switch the transparency and colours on and off. Dust scatter should have a lot of specks of light. Superheated air should be more nearly continuous, and much brighter.
