I haven't even purchased Poser 7 yet.  I first have a question about Poser's animation features.

Can you buy animations for Poser?  Like, if I want a walk cycle, can I buy a walk cycle, drop it into Poser 7, and then with the click of a button have my character walking?  Is this possible?

Or would I have to animate the walk cycle myself?

Thanks.

Poser comes with a set of walk cycles that you can tweak using the Walk Designer.

Poser can also import BVH motion files, it'll apply them to the currently selected figure. Some cleanup will be necessary though.

nerd3d has a set of walk cycles for DAZ Millenium 2 and 3 figures on his site, www.nerd3d.com.  They work very well.

So there are quite a few possibilities.

You can buy animations for Poser in bvh format, and there are also a number of places to find bvh animations free. That said, I have to say that most of them suck, either somewhat or a lot--either they're jerky and noisy, or just distorted so badly you might as well start from scratch, so approach any source with a grain of salt. I have downloaded and purchased a number of animation files, but I rarely end up using them, since even when they don't suck, they're not really what I need. Poser has a walk designer, but it doesn't work great with DAZ characters. Nerd3d has a Walk Designer plugin that works pretty well, but, overall, I've found walks really hard to find/get right.

You'd be better off to try and do them yourself. Dont buy them because the cycle may not work for your scene or figure the sameway.

poser has a walk cycle built in as well as a walk path creator. I've included a link to another really good  place to find decent animations. Straight forward drag & drop files as long as you're using Victoria 3. Hope this helps!

Poser has had a nice little "plug-in" called Walk Designer since version 4 i think. as you can see from the attached screenshot it has a nice set of parameters for designing your walk. it works better with some characters than others, but still its very nice.

This is exactly what I needed.  Perfect.  Thanks so much everyone.  I think I'll go ahead and buy Poser 7!
