Im struggling to make a wine bottle with a lable on it. Theres probably an easy way to do this but whatever I seem to do the effect isnt correct, the label is either translucent or wont sit correctly on the bottle. Can any one help with an easy guide to adding a label to a bottle? Thanks in advance for any help.

Check my free tutorials and videos. In the one on materials (the space ship landing gear one) there is info on "decal" type labels. I think my video on the concrete pier and seaweed may shows it to.

Thank's I had a look at your tut but you are mixing opaque objects although the basics are the same the problem only occurs when mixing glass and a solid label, either the glass takes on some of the property's of the label or vice versa. No matter what I try in the material editor the effect is either a dull washed out glass or a reflective label (yes reflectivity on the label is set to 0). Anyway thanks I will keep looking for a solution.

When you say your making the bottle are you making is using boolean objects in Vue or modelling it outside Vue and importing it?
Could you show us a quick render of the problem so we can get a better idea of what you're doing.

The bottle is a 3ds imported to vue and the label added there. As you can se in this test render either the glass takes on some charactaristics of the label or the other way round. The label actually looks as if it has been printed onto the bottle instead of actually being a different material altogether.impish posted Sun, 25 February 2007 at 5:43 PM
Ok. That rules out a few possibilities.
How did you apply the label? Is there a separate geometry for the label or (as it appears to be) a texture map applied to the bottle?

Purely a texture map applied to the bottle.

The picture above is a (very crude) attempt to achieve what I think your trying to do (but I may be wrong).
If you are try this:
First make an image map and a trans map for your object of the label.
Now in Vue:
Hope I've understood what you were trying to do.

I will give it a try thanks for the time spent on this.
