This is a model I've been working at on and off for some time.  Its only the second one I've model I've got textured, and its very low poly.  Texture still isn't right on the front end but I thought I'd give it a showing anyway. If you've ever seen Battlefront 2 you might recognise it - If I've done a good enough job.

Let me know what you think!  Do you like it?

works fine for texture; this is a frontline unit, so it's gonna show some wear..;) the hard thing is getting the @#$ing 'decals' positioned correctly on these things..;)  I think it's a fine model.

Very nice model Alex. What app did you use to model it in?

alexclark posted Fri, 02 March 2007 at 2:25 PM

Thanks for your kind words! danamo - Original bits made in Wings3D, then assembled and textured through Bryce 5.5 I'm working now on detailing the cockpit section - its a bit bland at the mo. Maybe it needs some 'score' notches or something. (Perhaps this should be in the wings forum, but I posted it here because I only have the complete model as an obp file, and when its done I may offer it up in Bryce freestuff if anybody wants it. Not that I know how to do that, mind)

I think it looks great. How was the lights on the floor done? Looks kinda like caustics to me.

Good model....   I like the concept...   what texture did you use...  which mat. are these...?

ROFLMAO!! No, by all means, please post your updates on this forum here! I'm not laughing at your model, or what you said, lol. I'm just savoring the delicious irony of His Eminence, Cardinal TheBryster having said something nice about a model built using **WINGS! ** Heh, heh, heh, heh! I'm a fellow heretic Wings user too. Whats even richer is that he can't retroactively erase what he just said! Because of the rules, he can't even threaten you with the "comfy chair" now.

tom271 posted Fri, 02 March 2007 at 5:14 PM

I think he said " very nice .mats"   not  "very nice model".....   I'm I wrong?

Tom; I know he didn't say "very nice model", that's what I said, but  he did say "very nice mats" and the mats are part of the model in this rendering. If you compliment a lady's dress saying only "oh, that's a beautiful color and material", you are still saying something positive about the dress, even though you may have said nothing about the cut and construction of said dress. ;-)

I'm for it - a WINGS user, and I mentioned Morrissey a while back  anyway... Tom - I made the textures from royalty free images with HUGE amounts of layering and alpha channels (hence they're still not finished). Death_at_Midnight - its a flattened sphere witha volume cloud mat applied and ambience ramped up some. An old trick I learned while trying to get a blowing dust type look - Didn't achieve it but it looks cool still.

I think keep this version and make a detailed version too. Have the detailed on ein front and a buch of the low poly versions in teh background.
