I have found if you enable Texture Filtering, you will get better results.
You will see a lot of people advising you to turn off Texture Filtering,
but they do that to render faster and use less memory. But if you
want good looking hair, sometimes you do need Texture Filtering
to be enabled. Try it and see if it helps. If it doesn't help you
can always turn it off again.

The Firefly settings were default for this example.
I'll give it a go with Texture Filtering when I get back from lunch at the race course ( if I'm not too pissed)
Thanks for the advice.

Another approach is to lower your shading-rate values, both in your render settings and on the hair itself. It's a trade-off, though, as this will slow down rendering on the hair and increase your resource usage.
Poser 7 has a different (and possibly better) method of handing texture filtering, by the way.

Texture filtering will help because firefly will then use a downsized resampled texture version that's more fitting for the small size of the hair compared to the size of the texture. But for Poser 5/6 texture filtering means 3 times as much memory usage for each texture. So if you're running out of memory when using Poser 5/6's firefly, try downsizing the hair textures with an image editing software.
