It seems DAZ has released the 6.1 update.
From the DAZ email -- "This e-mail is to inform you that this product has been updated to Bryce 6.1! This update introduces MAC-Intel compatibility, as well as interface and control updates to the IBL lab, corrections to the included content, and many bug fixes, including fixes to the Bryce Lightning network render application. This update requires a full reinstall of the application."
schmoopy posted Wed, 07 March 2007 at 4:36 PM
And DAZ's website immediately crashes, lol. I'm looking forward to seeing what's new.
Death_at_Midnight posted Wed, 07 March 2007 at 4:44 PM
Yeah I noticed too. I didn't see the update listed in my account page, so I sent them an email through their site and boom! Down for maintenance.
Looking at the DAZ forums, it looks to be $35 if you have a platinum membership. HDRI improvements, 10 HDRI's included, improvements to Bryce Lightning, and ability to set CPU priority.

FAR more control. And, a lot more snappy/responsive when swaping out various HDRI's.
And most importantly (imho), when using an HDRI, you don't have to render with soft shadows on, speeding things way up.

Vile, as long as you didn't save any presets to the default categories that came with Bryce 6, then you shouldn't have to worry about them. We recommend that you back them up though, just in case. I installed v6.1 over my 6.0 install and it only overwrote the default presets, not the ones I'd added under new category names.
jelisa posted Wed, 07 March 2007 at 8:35 PM
The reset DAZ did automatically expires on 3/11. After 3/11, you can just reset your downloads manually to get the updated files.
AgentSmith posted Wed, 07 March 2007 at 8:37 PM
But, yes....just in case if you have any presets in say your "User" folders, I would copy them elsewhere before doing anything (backup!)
Per Skondris' post I uninstalled/re-installed.

No, dual Opteron 280s (2 x 2 core), Cinema rocks with 4 render lines and all pegged at 100%, bryce so far can only do 50%, uses all cores though. Still, it seems pretty cool.

One thing worth mentioning is that Priority isn't saved with the file (so batch renders are always at the default 50% as well as reload) nor is it saved with Launch to Previous State. Not that it matters much but the Low and Normal are just about the same on the PC (around 50%). On the Mac it's 25%, 50%, 100%.

All of the content that isn't native to the install seems to be sitting in my computer in Bryce 6.0. I don't have any presets that I can't live without, and I didn't think 1 minute into the future to back up the installed content, which doesn't seem to be an issue now that I've seen the undeleted folders.
**Is it just a matter of copying and pasting into the new 6.1 folder, or will I have to totally re-install the content I purchased for Bryce?
**Yes, I'm a fool for not thinking ahead...but, I got caught up in the "AAAHHH! An update!!" mentality. I just want to know if I have to head over to DAZ and reset my Bryce downloads and start plugging away again.
Thanks all,
StevieG
Incarnadine posted Sat, 10 March 2007 at 6:16 PM

Yeah, some of the content has been updated and/or new presets added, so really you would want to install the NEW preset installers, but as far as old presets, I've just kept those under my "User" section(s), so I just dragged my User folders out, unistalled my B6.0, installed B6.1, and dragged and dropped my User folders back in. Hrm, I just re-rendered in B6.1 one that I was doing in old B6, but with the soft shadows off and either feels just as fast or performance dropped. I'm not sure if it's actual or just my imagination. Is there more than one place to set soft shadows? I went to the sky lab and clicked it off, and it's off in render options. Am I missing any other place?
AgentSmith posted Mon, 12 March 2007 at 10:15 PM
**Is there more than one place to set soft shadows?
**-Yup. In the IBL section of the Sky Lab, there is the "Quality" slider right underneath the HDRI preview window, take it off the default of 256 and down to 16.
The old "Soft Shadows" button has to do with just the suns shadows, and when you use HDRI, the sun is by default turned off, so that will have no effect. (unless you were to turn it back on (the sun)), and then still that would only affect the shadows made by the sun.
