Has anyone installed the V6 Esprit final release and, if so, have you noticed any issues?  I have it downloaded but, after following the debacle of V6i, I'm really hesitant on doing the update.

TIA

I did not have any issues with it, but if you are using large scenes/models (millions of polygons) and you're using poser figures, then you would probably be better off with the pre-release. Best is always to make a backup of your current install. If I'm not wrong then you can also replace some files to swap from one version to another (just in case...)

Note at the bottom of the page:

Known Issues- Poser import still doesn't work right (abnormal resource depletion, conversion errors). We are working this out with e-frontier. Thank you for your patience.

But this is for Vue 6 Infinite, not Esprit, which is what I was asking about.  Thanks, anyway

I haven't tried any Poser objects. I am running Vista x64, with the retail Vue 6 build 289779 installed and have no issues.  Also use Carrara 5.1 and Vue has no import issues.  Tried to check for updates but was told I have the most current build and no updates are available.  It is running smooth and I have tried scenes with 5 million polygons without issue.

Had to uninstall the pre before the final release would find the plants trees objects etc ,after that no worries yet.

I am getting a lot of crashes for one reason or another and the collections are just acting plain weird. If you turn off the cornucopia links sometime you can see your items listed, next time they won't be. My system is well over the recommended specs but still getting crashes, sometimes with material issues sometimes for no apparent reason, just hoping SR1 will be out soon.

Victoria_Lee - I've been using Vue 6 Esprit final release for a few days days now, I too was hesitant about using it because of problems with Infinite. On the whole it seems to work pretty much like the pre release. The only issue I have is with the resource problem. I have to constantly purge my memory, especially when Poser items are in the scene, which I suppose was to be expected!  I need to work with it more before I can see any major difference.

Victoria_Lee posted Thu, 22 March 2007 at 9:06 AM

Thanks, Storm, that's what I was wondering about.  I'm going to back up my pre version and then install the final.  If I have the same problem with resources I'll report it to e-on as a bug and hopefully they'll work it out at the same time they work out the issue in V6i

If you will partition your hard drive, which you should do before installing any resource hungry program. Partition the hard drive so that the OS is separate from everything else and with enough virtual memory to handle a load. Then you can partition again, that's 3 drives on 1 drive, and put one version of Vue on one of the drives and put your final version of Vue on the other drive. I have this on mine as we speak so that I may check the 'Finale Version', before I delete the ‘PRE’. My last Vue 6 Esprit image had 552million plus polys and at one point had 18billion and except for some slowing my puter down, I had no other issues and built and rendered it all in the Finale Version, but I am running a DualCore with 4 GHz of PC 6400 ram. Hope this helps in some small way

Thelby, I have 4 internal hard drives right now, two IDE and 2 SATA.  My OS is on its own partition and my 3d applications live on their own partition.  I've been running computers for over 25 years now so I'm not particularly new at this.

I installed the Vue 6 final onto a completely separate drive from the pre-release and have been playing with it for a couple of days now.  I've not noticed any problems so far so I'm pretty happy with it.

My biggest problem so far is that I can't download any of my purchased content from Cornucopia 3D and the email address they have on the site is wrong.  The forums seem to be down, as well, but it's not a really big deal.

Thelby, I was just pointing out that I'm not a newbie to computers.  If you'll read my original post, it was to discover if anyone had found any issues with the Vue 6 Esprit final release that I might be interested in knowing about before installing it, not how to install the final.

Sorry if I stepped on your toes.

Well, I guess I almost have to eat my words. I loaded the procedural terrain Antarctica and it crashed Vue. Since I am not new at computers I began an in-depth diagnostics that would Make Microsoft envious. Okay, I am bragging a bit!

When I installed Vue 6 I left the Vista x64 bit OS ver 6.0 video drivers installed, which are only OpenGL 1.1 compliant, and do not support SSE. Vue complained and asked me to use the Software rendering, which I refused.

I have since found, Vista’s Nvidia 7600 GS drivers are not compatible with Vue when using OpenGL Hardware acceleration, software yes.

I am hesitant to install my old Win XP SP2 x64 Nvidia drivers in Vista, but said, “what the heck.” WELL, I got Vista to accept the NVidia drivers, ver 5.7 with SSE, 256m onboard memory, 256m shared system memory, and 2.1 OpenGl support.

Vue 6 has stopped gripping about my video card, and the procedural terrains are not crashing under OpenGl Hardware Acceleration when rendering.

Hope this is of help to some.

Is there not a Vue 64 bit that may have worked with your Vista x64 better, then being able to advantage of the higher available RAM. That's actually what I am waiting to hear, if Vue works better in the 64 bit enviroment as it should under Vista, before I build my next powerhouse.

Yes, Infinite and xStream are 64 bit versions optimized for Windows XP64, all others flavors are x86.

http://www.e-onsoftware.com/products/?page=chart here is the comparison chart, at the bottom are the specs of interest.

I am a painter on canvas, so I use Vue more for mock-up than anything else.  I do not need the big packages at the present, but do like to run the x64 OS for stability.

I can say this with assurance, if you want either of the Vue x64 packages; get a minimum of 8 gigs of fast ram if you are going to do eco’s.

As far as Vista goes, Ultimate is the best package for 3D, has backup software and a lot of extras the other Vista packages do not have; not cheap.  Choose your hardware and software carefully, as much is still not supported, maybe toward the end of this year.

I can't speak for others, and except for the Poser problem, I have not had problems with any of the Vue versions or flavors with the exception of drivers when installed in Vista.  However, Vue 6 was optomized for Win XP, so not many have tried Vista.

If you have the time, knowledge, and can setup the right hardware and software, I see no reason not to go with Vista x64.
