When I edit any of my gallery entries, I would like to be able to disable comments on my images without having all the previously made comments disappear. Would this be possible?

I'm not sure why you would want to stop comments after you have allowed them? I think it makes sense to have it one way or another. Either you accept all comments or you choose not to and if you edit to stop comments then the image shouldn't have any comments under it.

Thanks for your response. I have my reasons for wishing to do this.
I gather from you response that it will be comments or no comment.
But I still am wondering if this would be possible for the programmers it implement.

We will discuss it but to be honest, I doubt this is something we will implement
