A couple people have requested this, here is the shader tree for the grass in 'Distant Cousins'

Thanks. This looks very good. By the way, what are you using for the Image Maps?

thixen posted Tue, 27 March 2007 at 1:59 AM

This uses RDNAs Macrocasm so it's using the forest1 and forest2 textures that come with it, but you could use any repeated tiled grass texture and it should work almost as well.

thank you very much!

Use a "dense" noise node and plug it into displacement, and you'll get 3d grass (increase the bias on your lights for best results)

That's really cool, and I saw your test render of same.  Thanks for posting settings for this, I'll be taking advantage of it myself.  Spiffy.

The hsv node has something plugged into the Value. What is that?

pjz99 posted Tue, 27 March 2007 at 5:49 AM

Appears to me that 3 wires are coming into Value from:
PoserSurface:
Specular_Value
Ambient_Value
Bump

I thought those were from the Image_Map node at the bottom in the image above. Was I wrong?

Hopefully Thixen will clarify :)  It's hard for me to tell for sure.

The image map that is below the hsv is plugged into the hsv, Specular color, Ambient Value, and the bump.

Thanks, that helped. I wasn't sure what was plugged into the hsv node.

The image map on the bottom right - MCForest1 doesn't seem to be attached to anything, is this right?

Anniebel-

It looks like it's plugged into the ambient value and specular color to me

I think this is correct from what I can make out.

thixen posted Tue, 27 March 2007 at 2:04 PM

here is an updated one with the displacement included. It's the only change to the above.

cherokee69 I checked yours and it matches.
