I currently have 8 lights in a Poser 6 scene. I added a ninth and the light is not shining. Light is ON in Properties. Any ideas on this?

There's a limit to how many lights show in Preview mode. I don't
remember what it is, but 8 sounds about right! Try rendering, and
you should see it again.

The limits on lighting in the preview are Open GL dependent. They don't effect your final render as much as you'd think . However, the only way to test how they work is to do a test render, so it does, in a sense, limit your ability to fiddle with them in the preview ;)

As far as I know, OpenGL limits the number of lights to 8.
You might get the preview you want if you switch to SreeD instead of OpenGL. Be prepared for a slowdown of the user interface though.

With Poser 6 you don't need that many lights. Some say that you can get a really nicely lit up scene with just 1 IBL light and 1 Infinite or spotlight. I've never been able to achieve that for myself, but I have managed to get a nicely light up scene with 4 infinte lights.
Try these tutorials for help with Poser 6 lighting. Olivier at RDNA is a guru when it comes to lighting.

Bagginsbill is also a guru, because he managed to figure out how to do it with only 1 light!
Our very creative bagginsbill has a great technique for a new way to use light probes! And he was kind enough to write up a tutorial on how he accomplished it.

I compiled a list of links that are about lighting. If you are interested in light probes, there is a post in there dedicated to that as well. Scroll toward the bottom of page 1 to find it.

I switched to Sree 3D and the 9th light still won't show.

Thanks, Acadia. I'll take a look.

nevermind on my other post then... apparently 8 lights in the preview is the limit in Poser 6 and that's it... I'll have to live with it...
sorry for the bumps....
