In vue 5 infinite. When i try and use the star effect, all i get is abunch of dots in the sky. But dots dosn't cut it. realistic stars shine. How do i go about adding a realistic set of stars?

Turn down the brightness, turn on the twinkle and turn on the colored stars.  You'll get stars of varying size and color with a bit of twinkle to them.  By turning down the brightness they blend with the atmosphere better.

You can also place some far away point lights making them very bright, so you have one or a few "extra bright" stars, in case you wanna resemble a star formation (these horoscope stars, no idea whats it called in english).

Yes, that was the word!  :) Oh and if you use lights then dont forget to turn off shadow and object lighting to save on rendering time.

Aha, that sounds like a great idea. At first when i turned on stars in the atmosphere menu.. i was disappointed cause it was just dots that didn't look like stars. but thanks for the tips

Stars is one of the things that I don't really like in Vue. All the techniques above are good but I find that, when the sky is an important part of the scene and not just a background, the best is to postwork it. There are excellent free star brushes available in the net. Because the sky can be easily isolated with the corresponding Z image (depth), it's easy to do it.

Or,in the case of Vue 5 your not really gonna get a damn thing real looking out of the sky  no matter what you do,you can always put a rocking star image onto an alpha plane with all atributes turned off but luminance and make that your sky(; you can look at this link for the best stellar images on the web IMHO,and there free:D
