Greetings mortals!
The grand moment has arrived to annouce the next Bryce Challenge. It shall be "old stuff".
Old toys, old ruins, old cities, old oceans, old tech, old gears, old machines, old glass, old times, old memories, old cars, old Bryce, old food (eww!), attics, spaceships, boats, anything that is aged or that the central theme instills the meaning of "old" or "aged".
Some examples:
A ruined spaceship in a desert.
A wagon wheel forgotten and weathering on the side of a barn.
Angkor Wat shrouded in the jungles of Cambodia.
Pyramids in a dusty Martian landscape.
Feel free to use tools like the Ivy Generator. Postwork is allowed, as well as mesh and image imports. Let your imagination soar and have fun! Let's see what old stuff you can make Bryce can do!

Yep! Rust, dust, mist, grit, wear, tear... it's all gold. :-)

Rust is the texture artist's gold.....
Someday we will have to do an all Bryce materials challenge...... Just to get the guilt out...

do things have to look old in the sense of being worn out etc..? or can they be new looking but from an older era?
tom271 posted Fri, 06 April 2007 at 11:48 PM
the key words are "rust" and "old".......

Analog-X64 posted Fri, 06 April 2007 at 11:53 PM
I was thinking of doing a scene set in the 80's.
tom271 posted Sat, 07 April 2007 at 12:48 AM
rust and old..... 80's is old now you need rust,,,,:)

Death_at_Midnight posted Sat, 07 April 2007 at 12:54 AM
Hey there! I think that 80's idea might be interesting. Give it a shot. If you don't like it, do another idea ;-) Just remember the image has to embody old or age. Rust is a good way to do that ;-) I'm sure there's other ways too. :-)

I've started on two completely different image ideas..... I'll see how they evolve and pick one to post.

I guess WIP threads could be started while AgentSmith clears away the glass and gets everything ready.

a simple photograph of myself on a 2d plane should suffice for the "old" theme :)
why... thats just crazy enough to work!
tom271 posted Mon, 09 April 2007 at 2:33 PM
There is a threaded with wide pitch material in Bryce and I took two put then together and offset them to look like a smaller pitch screw.... Brycer, I know I'm nuts but out of line?? or my nuts don't line up..?

Actually makin a realistic old nude could be quite an interesting challenge! wont be as sexy as the default silicone vicky, but it'd require some good skills in compensation!

Ray that sounds like a challenge within a challenge, now how can I resist that. Already working on it.
Drac, glad I caught you. I now have my own site, sort of. It's only to give away freebies. You still have my rustic bridge obp on you site, do you want me to transfer it to my own one?
At the moment I only have clothing texture freebies on it, cos everyone kept bullying me to share them and I was even given free web space to do so.

hey, i don't mind keeping it there. it's no biggie. if you do want to take them away you can just tell me what file it is and i'll delete it :)
chohole posted Mon, 07 May 2007 at 4:23 PM
As long as you are happy to keep it. I know it did get at least one recent download, which was why I had to go looking for a link to give out.
As I said at the moment my place is sort of geared towards stuff for poser and daz studio, which is why I haven't bothered to post a link to it here.
Wouldn't want to upset the Bryster, although he knows I am a heretic.

A well done image. I really like that background/rocks. Kinda reminds me of a few stories that have the hero walking in some ruins then there's this old hag all in rags, asking if the hero is a warrior... Then when the hero turns around, the hag is no longer there....

if u want to make it a tripple challenge u could even try and make it a 'classic nude' like in old paintings and everything. Then u got challenge on modelling, composition, texturing ánd lighting, and all that without jumping to the clichéd rustbuckets
