It seems that Bryce objects come in .3ds Which I can import with poser -but the .obp is not. Is there a program like povray that I could open it and save is as a .obj or .3ds?

if the object is made from an imported mesh then you can export the mesh. Otherwise you can't.
if the object has an 'e' next to it, click on that and then fress ctrl D, and an export dialogue will come up.

I dont have Bryce - this would be from the Freebies here @ r'dsty

Right now there's no 3rd party product that will read an .obp file since that's a proprietary Bryce format and has been since Bryce was first developed.

Bryce can import a number of different formats but a native .obp file can't be exported at all.

So - without Bryce there is no way I can get these .obp files to work in poser - darn!

'fraid so. Poser 6 has the ability to export some things (only having 5, I don't remember which). Bryce 5 can export terrains, which you can make into fairly detailed objects using height maps (grayscale designts). Drop by the Bryce forum, we'd be happy to explain, or search on threads already there.

with bryce 6.1 you can export terrains and compounded grouped objects made from boolean objects into 3ds

But those are meshes, wrpspeed, not .obp files.  If you make a tree in the tree lab and save it, it saves as an .obp which can't be exported to anything else.  The question here was can an .obp file be imported to any program which will convert it to a Poser readable file since the person doesn't have Bryce.

most folks wind up going in the other direction..Poser to Bryce. You export the object (character, etc) into Bryce, hopefully include the textures (there's a freebie in Freebies called Grouper, which can do this), and in some cases, make the outer eyeball transparent. It may not give the results you get in Poser, but it's doable (there's also several tutorials out there that explain how to do this in more detail).

At the risk of heresy, Bryce and Daz Studio are 'somewhat' integrated. Some Poser features may not work (without spendy addons), but Daz Studio is free. You can pose and create in D|S, then export to Bryce, and have a fairly accurate character there. Plus shadows..;)

Stop by the Bryce forum if you like to ask more questions.

that's too bad - there's some really neat stuff in the Bryce freebies- I guess I'll have to wait for DAZ to give away Bryce - lol!

Victoria_Lee posted Mon, 07 May 2007 at 9:40 AM

You should have gotten in on the Bryce for $6.00 deal back when DAZ bought it.  Even if you never used it, that was a great sale.

I bought Bryce for $6, just to use to for those pesky .OBP files.
