I have had some of the Honda motorcycles from the above site on my hard drive for quite some time and tonight decided to convert them to .obj files using Poser Ray so that I can use them.
I think I'm doing something wrong :(
Here are 2 screenshots of what I get when I finish converting to .obj and import the .obj to Poser. These are 2 separate motorcycles.
The steps I do in Poser Ray are as follows:
What I see in the preview window of poser looks like a motorcycle, but it looks plastic. They don't look anything like the bikes on that site.I mean like where is the chrome, etc?
Can someone walk me through the steps I need to do in Poser Ray in order to assemble thse motorcycles so that they don't look like multi colour plastic crackerjack toys or like they were dipped in red paint?

I'll try the other download link. Also, how do you get Poser Ray to preview anything? When I imported the DFX files, I didn't see a preview at all. In fact I don't know the results until after I've saved the file out as .obj and import it into Poser. It's a PITA like that.

I went back to the Honda site and downloaded the lightwave files for some of the vehicles.
I also downloaded the newer version of Poseray.
However, now while I do get a preview of the vehicle, when I try and import the newly created .obj file, Poser looks for non existant bump files, and won't load the vehicle at all. Or it doesn't look for anything additional and nothing loads in the preview window
EDIT:
Do I need to do anything in the other tabs? All I do is "Infput/Load" and "Obj Output/Save". I don't touch the other tabs because they look too complicated.

I've got a long vue render going on at the moment so I can't download one and have a play atm. Sounds like the materials have gone a bit screwy - there's a materials tab in poseray where you can set stuff like bump maps etc. Might be worth taking a look in there

I did look in there, but it might as well be the control panel of a 747 for all that I understood, LOL

It looks great in Vue too once you fiddle with the glass materials heh

In PoseRay load all the LWO files at once by selecting all the files in the load 3D model... menu. You can select more than one file there.
This model does not have any bumpmaps. I do not know where the bump information came from since the model does not use texture maps.
To convert this model you can use these steps:
1- go to load 3D model... Select all the LWO files that form the motorcycle model.
2- once the model is loaded go to the OBJ output tab and press save...
3- select the output directory and press OK
4- import the model into Poser or any other program that can read Wavefront.
The tutorials listed in PoseRay's manual list a more comprenhensive list of steps for this procedure but these are the basic steps.
Although PoseRay's dialogs may look complicated the only reason I did them that way is because I detest hidden options.
If you still are having problems please let me know.

it's a very useful utility is Poseray. Occasionally has problems with Poser lights for some reason but I have a feeling that's more to do with my light setup than anything.

Thanks to you and Frank T, I now have 20 new vehicles in my Vehicles Runtime. And I have 8 or 10 more to download from there.
Some I couldn't manage to convert to .obj because Poseray couldn't find some bump files and because of that the vehicle wouldn't load properly in Poseray. So I just cancelled those when that happened and carried on.
I had one car load minus back wheels. I figure I'll still use that one and stick a block under the axels and add some rust, lol
I encountered one instance with a motorcycle where when I imported the .obj into Poser that it was looking for some ani&light file or something. I cancelled the search and the bike imported seemingly without obvious defects. Guess I'll see when I do a render and some part is missing.
However, it's worth the hassels because they are really good quality vehicles and finding free vehicles is pretty hard, especially Poser ready ones.

What is Poser ray and where do I get it?

Google is your friend
it's software to convert 3D models from various formats and output in POV-Ray or .OBJ format (amongst other things)

Thank you.
Yeah, I put "Poser Ray" into google because somebody spelled it that way, and did not
get good results. Which is why I asked on here.

I found this thread through some cookie crumbs left by Acadia, all started by a search for motorcycles. What a find and what a wonderfull bunch of information! I've saved this page in my favorites, because I've yet to the hard work. But, I couldn't wait for that to thank you all.
