I am looking into a canon 30D with the Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Autofocus Lens
I know the 30D is a great camera my main question is how is the performance of the lens it comes with? and what other recommendations do you guys have for me my buget is around 2400USD I will be using this camera for my on the go cant use a tripod type stuff and my oly for instudio and tripod based photography and for my wife as she now wants a DSLR to replace her nikon 5600.

I have this camera and lens. For the money, I think it would be hard to go wrong on the lens, and the camera is a no-brainer. Given the price difference between the 30D and the 5D you're getting a heck of a camera.

The lens is sharp from wide open to fully stopped down, and the IS works very well. The 28-135 range makes it a great carry-around lens. That said, if possible you should take a CF card to a dealer and shoot some pics in the store with the camera and lens combo, then take the card home and see what you got. Especially let your wife play with it, since the controls are so different between Nikon and Canon. I looked at a Nikon D200 before I bought my 30D and I couldn't figure out how to make it work after having learned to use my Canon 10D.

Another consideration is lenses. I'm a Canon guy, but if you already have a fortune invested in Nikon lenses you should think long and hard before switching to an incompatible brand. In the long run, the glass is more important than the body. You'll eventually go through several bodies while building a stable of compatible lenses.

Ok I gotta a 30D it's a nice cam. But am I am understanding you right here - you have an Olympus DSLR which you are going to use for tripod and studio use ? Why would you now buy a Canon DSLR which by comparison is going to be bulky and heavy and requires a whole new set of glass for use out and about ?
Buy another Olympus, share the glass and accesories you will have a great system that will be lighter and less bulky than the Canon.

@cosine, thanks for the info, the nikon m wife has now is a P&S camera so not changing systems their.

@onslow, I thought about changing to another oly body maybe the E510, but I did get to use a 30D at a shoot last weekend with a 50mm lens and I was really impressed with its speed and it outperformed my E500. I may still wait and check out the e510 before getting the canon, but with 3 weddings coming up in aug and september I wanted to add a 2nd camera to my line up.

Not being a DSLR guy, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and ask why you would want to get a camera from a different manufacturer when you won't be able to interchange the lenses?

I would agree the 30D is a superb camera and the lens is a great choice with IS... I would also question the important point about the investment you have made in the Olympus system..  If you have handled the Canon and it fits the bill, and you need a 2nd camera you will be able to use the Oly so it makes sense that way..  Another possibility would be the L glass 24-105 this  is quite a lot better if you can afford it..

My Olympus is by no means going to sit in the corner untouched and neglected. Getting the 30D serves two purposes it gets my wife her DSLR she was looking at a rebel xti as her pick as its not a bulky monster, but I dont want two have 2 entry level camera's and she also really likes the photos the oly can put out. I planned on getting a 2nd camera when I first stepped into the DSLR realm, just didnt think the money was going to work out this early. I was leaning between the canon or nikon but have not had a chance to get to use a nikon and the 30D seems like it will do what I want, there is also a much larger lens selection with the canon over the olympus system.
@danob I have looked at the lens and I am thinking about it, as it seems like it would be a suberb lens.

I was just thinking that it makes sense to stick with the same manufacturer so that your lenses are interchangeable. :)

@twopynts, I would tend to agree with you on that if already owned a canon or nikon as they both have different performance levels to their camera bodies where oly really doesnt. Olympus offers several different DSLR bodies but they are all really on the same level with mabe the exception of the upcomming E510 but its performance has yet to be tested and down the road the E3.
