What this means for the Max customer is that all of the De Espona models will be released individually through Vanishing Point, and also Renderosity and Content Paradise. The models, which are in Max 5 versions on the De Espona site, will all be updated to Max 7, and will be rigged for animation. This process will take about three months to complete.

JGodeau,
We will be releasing the full range of all 1250 models in high resolution format, updated to MAX 7 and rigged. There were two Taschen books, I have both, but the high poly models are much more detailed than those in the Taschen books. For a full preview of what is to come you can just visit De Espona's website.
We will be converting all the models that there would be a market for to other versions, like Poser, Vue, Lightwave and Cinema4D, and for some of the smaller models, like say the tools or cutlery, we will be combining those into packs to make them more accessible.

Are the Poser models going to be priced the same as the Max models are? The models sure look great, but I'm not really getting excited when I see $35 for one model, knowing that will buy me almost a complete army or zoo for Poser at other vendors.

*I know, those books were really a scam : showing pictures of the high-res models in the booklet but almost only low-res models on the cd.
I am looking forward to the Poser version. My credit card is not.

No, the Poser models will be cheaper than the Max versions. The Max versions will average about $30 each, ranging from $5 to about $40, obviously things like aircraft carriers costing more than a cup or spoon model.
The Poser versions will average $20, ranging from $5 to about $30, and as you you can see from the Bonn Station that is up, the prices will be reasonable.

Staby posted Tue, 05 June 2007 at 2:23 AM
Wil you be able to use a lower resolution version of the model to do the conversion?
Looking at the wire frames they look huge.
Helgard posted Tue, 05 June 2007 at 2:51 AM
Staby
We are testing each model as we do it. If the high resolution won't work in Poser, we will use the lower resolution. For a few select models, we will be making multiple res versions available for Poser.
For Max, Vue, Cinema4D and Lightwave we will be using the high resolution versions.
PS The Fiat 500 is about 90 000 polygons in high resolution, so it is less than Mike or Vicky with a set of clothes on, so that would be a high resolution model.

Cpuld you include some close-up shots of the buildings for Poser, since there's a fair chance they'll be used with figures standing in front of them? Do they have any internal walls? I assume if doors or windows opened that would be mentioned.
VanishingPoint posted Tue, 05 June 2007 at 1:05 PM
Whenever possible, all of the Poser models will be scaled to the size of the Poser people. And, yes, this includes the models that are "titanic" in size. ;)
If a building has movable doors, windows, or other parts, we'll mention it in the product description.

I wasn't questioning scale, just wondering how the buildings would look when zoomed in on a small part (as when the camera was framing a couple of people standing on the platform or at the doors of the station).
AntoniaTiger posted Tue, 05 June 2007 at 2:24 PM
I gather that the de Espona range includes several differemt WW2 infantry weapons which would fill gaps in Panko's Axis and Allies sets. (Checks their website) The Bren, the MG-34, and the MG-42 for WW2, and the M60 for the modern weapons set.
DarthJ posted Tue, 05 June 2007 at 3:04 PM
Not to mention the heavier WWII stuff like trucks (MB L3500 and Opel Blitz) and tanks, though there are some "doubles" which will be competing with existing Vanishing Point products (Panther,...).
And didn't anyone notice something weird about my "Feuerwehr" picture ?
bwldrd posted Tue, 05 June 2007 at 3:56 PM

DarthJ posted Tue, 05 June 2007 at 4:38 PM
Oh, and the "ropes" are actually hoses, hanging out to dry I guess. The tower is not mere decoration but used for storing hoses.
AntoniaTiger posted Tue, 05 June 2007 at 4:58 PM
The ropes are probably supposed to be hoses, being dried after use. The two photographs lead me to wonder if the de Espena model is based on a model railroad structure: the second picture does have that feel to it, with the quality of the lightng and the look of the sky and trees.
Helgard posted Tue, 05 June 2007 at 5:23 PM
Lol, yes, the second picture is from a railway prop, real world scale model, not 3D.
And no, I don't think De Espona based their design on the railway model, I think both were rather based on a real building. Many of the models are based on real buildings, and many of the scale models are actually made from injection moulds made in 3D programs, so there is a possibility that the scale model was made from a 3D model, possibly the De Espona one. I know that De Espona did sell models to scale model companies, but not sure in this instance.

DarthJ posted Tue, 05 June 2007 at 6:47 PM
The bottom picture is indeed a plastic kit, article 3767 "Feuerwehr Magazin" from Vollmer, search here :
I don't think it's coincidence : browsing the De Espona catalogue many articles looked very familiar for me as a former plastic modelbuilder , a few examples :
After all, why not use a model kit as a reference ? The plastic kit manufacturers do exactly the opposite : first they design a 3d model of their kit on computer before they mold anything in plastic.
If De Espona's people used that method they made a very good choice among the available plastic, too good even, 1250 models worth buying.
Ouch.
And you people from VP got 3750 threads to post in this forum : 1250 models x 3 (Poser + Max + Vue versions).
Ouch too.

ok, i had missed the fact that there were some awesome animals put out by this group. are they going to be converted to poser? if so, i vote for the safari animals first. especially the lions. if it's easier, replace the males mane with a conforming transmapped affair, but that body is marvelous.
if you could get them to do a whole big cats line, life would be perfect.
and of course, the horse would be more than welcome.

AntoniaTiger posted Wed, 13 June 2007 at 1:14 AM
Real aircraft: AV-8B de Espona model: AV-813 I'm looking at the guy's website, and it's the same mistake there. Sometimes, the errors have the look of somebody not a native speaker of English--"IIWW" instead of "WWII"--and other times they're just outright bizarre. For instance, there's a model of a Pinky in the catalogue, described as a "LAND ROVER 'PINK PANTHER' (LRDG WWII)". It's a good model--I was sitting in a real one a couple of weekends back--but they were built over twenty years after that war ended, for the SAS. Maybe Tamiya screwed up the translations for the particular non-English market (Spain?). But the de Espona model looks to have the jerrycan brackets wrong, unlike the Tamiya model.
mrsparky posted Wed, 13 June 2007 at 7:31 AM
Espona is a spainish company - so that would explain this.
Yep - your right about the SAS LWB landie these where well after WW2 - then again I've seen other plastic models featuring this 'colour' scheme- so I can see how this 'myth' has been carried over.
Regarding the accuracy of parts again as I've said before - real world military stuff often gets in-field modifactions - so it's hard to say something is ever 100% accurate. If an artist really needs a higher level of 'accuracy' - it's easy enough to find someone to re-model or re-texture it.
Overall though I think these issues are slight given how Espona has been gracious enough to allow his collection to be converted for use by Poser Artists. The pricing of the poser versions also puts these within in the reach of most of us.

*"will the animals be poserized too? pretty please?"
*I belive the answer is yep. But I don't know when that will be.
As an example last 15 model pack I made with Lygher-Xero took around 2 weeks to complete, test, make promos and different versions etc etc. So given the numbers here it's gonna be a while before all the espona models get converted.
I understand animals in particular can take a long time to rig correctly. So I guess John wouldn't be dissapointed in any offers of help here :)

What the US calls a fire house? So maybe these are hoses not ropes.
I think Feuer means fire - then again my german is limited to Achtung Spitfire :) *
