Go to the new DAZ homepage and you'll find a free download for Bryce 5.5 at downloads.com.
The Poser figure pack includes free M3, V3, A3 and H3.
My visual indexes of Poser
content are at http://www.sharecg.com/pf/rgagnon

I downloaded it and tried to install it, but it asks me for a serial number.
Where do I get a serial number for it?

Here's what it says on the download page:
You'll have to register your copy of Bryce 5.5 on the publishers web-site to gain access to your free Bryce serial number.
Acadia posted Tue, 12 June 2007 at 4:29 PM
I noticed in the window asking for a serial number that it gives the following link to go to:
www.daz3d.com/bryce55
I managed to register my copy.
Is it a full working version or a stripped down version like 5.0 was?

If you can't get past the flash animation on dazs new page - the link for download.com is:
http://www.download.com/Bryce/3000-6677_4-10696717.html
then like acadia says go here...
www.daz3d.com/bryce55
...the serial will come up straight away.
Dajadues posted Tue, 12 June 2007 at 6:28 PM
I just finished downloading it. Now I have Bryce 5, 5.5 & 6.
Does it & the serial come up in your account page? like 5 did?

After you go to the link to get it, yes.

Don't forget also that you can upgrade to Bryce 6.1 from your free registered 5.5 for $19.95 for a limited time.

I believe Br5.5 was the first version that Daz laid their hands on.
I twas more of an upgrade to Br5.01 than a new version.
I suspect that it is more or less the Main Engine.
Daz is selling a bundle with the extra content cd from B5.
PS: Daz also dummied up part of Bryce to accomodate the way DS works.
If you happen to have 5.0 or 5.1 load up vicky for instance. You can texture each joint of each finger on her hand. Now do that in Br5.5 or 6 and all you can do is texture her hand.
Oh well, if you do not already have Bryce and want to give it a tryout, this is a great way to do it.

Bryce 5.01 was the version that DAZ purchased from Corel. B5.5 was the first update/upgrade that DAZ created afterwards.

Is Bryce mainly for landscapes or would it have value for rendering interior scenes from Poser? I have heard I could get better results rendering complete Poser scenes in a better rendering engine... would this be the case with Bryce? What is involved in rendering a Poser .pz3 in Bryce... I downloaded it last time it was free and could not figure out what to do with it. I am a perennial newbie, not very sophisticated I must admit.
Dajadues posted Wed, 13 June 2007 at 12:29 PM
I use it for landscapes & skys myself I haven't tried to use Daz models in it yet or to see if it works with Poser and it does have a very fast rendering engine I think. I'm gonna play with it and see if I can use Poser content in it today.
jugoth posted Wed, 13 June 2007 at 12:48 PM
you have to start bryce then click button to go to studio then load your pz3 ect and it does render poser stuff nice,
axeswipe posted Wed, 13 June 2007 at 1:06 PM
Bryce 5 was offered for free just prior to the Bryce 6.0 release in order to get people to buy the upgrade to 5.5, then 6. Same marketing ploy here, only they're offering 5.5 this time in the hopes they can get more people to upgrade to 6.1
Conniekat8 posted Wed, 13 June 2007 at 1:15 PM
It imports things from poser pretty well, with help of Daz Studio which comes with it.
(Don't go the obj export way)
I really like it for quick outdoor scene lighting setup, with it's sun location and atmosphere settings.

Does it do the trick compare to Vue? Cause i use Vue6Pro for my Poser render and am pleased with, but perhaps Bryce has an interesting render engine too??
Conniekat8 posted Wed, 13 June 2007 at 1:42 PM
It's a stepdown from Vue. But, for some silly reason I like Bryce :)

Does it worth i download it?
Dajadues posted Wed, 13 June 2007 at 2:39 PM
I think it's worth the download. I like to render the skies for Poser backgrounds. That's good to know though so we can use our pz3 scenes with it.
aeilkema posted Wed, 13 June 2007 at 3:11 PM
If you have Vue6Pro it's not worth downloading at all. It's like using Vue 4 or even Vue 3 again. After all these years, Bryce still doesn't support direct Poser import, instead DAZ forces you to go import through D/S if you want to import Poser stuff into Bryce. That's the main reason I never upgraded from Bryce 5 to 5.5 or 6. I only will consider using Bryce if there's direct support for Poser, I don't need yet another application to interrupt my workflow.
Stick to Vue 6, much better.

Probably, I don’t get it even if it is free.
Why DAZ have to sell it (Bryce 6) so cheep?
Conniekat8 posted Wed, 13 June 2007 at 4:29 PM
I think DAZ philosophy is to sell the programs pretty cheap to build up user base for their content.

Because it's really only worth $20 or so, since even Bryce 6 is still outdated a lot compared to it's direct competition.

I don't have Vue so it's worth it to me to download it and it's free. No complaints from me. I have used Bryce for a long time. Longer than Poser. It makes life easier for me if I can render out the sky & ground in Bryce to use the image in Poser and besides, there's plenty of Bryce freebies to use in Bryce so you don't just have to do landscapes. You can do full scenes with it.

As a Bryce user since the very beginning of Bryce 4, I have very little desire to buy Daz 's Bryce Content.
Why, because they love to use the native Bryce Obp file type. Limits it's use to strictly Bryce.
Those few that offer Obj Bryce content get my vote. They can be used in Bryce or Poser.
I guess they could be used in Vue or Carrara as well.

I don't get much in a way of Bryce content for Bryce, but you can use most of Poser content in Bryce. (Via Daz studio import)
That way thiose whom are not into Poser, can still use Daz Content.
You probably already saw it, but in case you didn't, we are discussing it in this thread: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?thread_id=2701074
As far as strictly bryce content, I think I purchased couple sky packs and as a matter on norm I get the bonus CD when upgrading ... but in general, my interests have always been in creating my own content rather then using other stuff, which, I think, makes me not your average user.
I have bought and used a LOT more poser content in Bryce, then actual bryce content. Some10 times more.

Exactly!
The same here.
Not at all into using DS and have been importing Poser Content into Bryce for Years.
I consider it an imposition when I paid for Byrce, that it tells me I need to install Daz Studio.
