Looks like a damsel fly to me....they're kinda big but harmless.

No checked that one. Looks more like a dobbinsfly but doesn't have the jaws.

Looked closer and it looks like a female dobbinsfly, she does have some good sized jaws on her.

If she eats other bugs I will be happy to have her here. I just moved here and finding all sorts of new critters.

It looks like it might be some sort of what's called a lacewing. There are green lacewings and other varieties. If that's what it is, then they are useful insects to have in the garden. They eat aphids, caterpillars, and other pests.

Just got done reading...adults like her don't eat, females will only bite to protect herself while trying to deposit her eggs. Males are perfectly harmless and have longer mandibles.
Go fishing. :P

That would be great, I've heard they are awesome in the garden. The pics though are in color, these guys are black and grey, I will look up lacewing though thanks for the tip!

There are businesses which sell lacewings to be used as a form of organic pest control. If that's what these are -- then you've gotten them for free.

Actually.......lacewings are also known to come into your bedroom & crawl into your ears while you sleep at night.

lol thought that was only roaches? We used to get folks in the E.R. with roaches, gnats and moths in their ears.

Nahhhh.....that was an old belief about earwigs. So you're safe. Unless if you have earwigs, too.
And of course -- dragonflies used to be called "darning needles", from a belief that they'd sew your ears or your eyelids up at night as you slept.

Sheesh! Wait till you have a SPIDER fall into your ear! You can actually count every hairy little foot while gibbering prayers that the bugger finds it's way out! Happened last summer while on a ladder 20'+ off the ground cleaning my gutters.

If that's a lacewing, you get a pretty titanic licewing in your neck of the woods, but it certainly doesn't look dangerous. No jaws and no sting make a reasonably safe combination, except from the point of view of the insect in question. That wing pose looks decidedly harmless, from a human point of view. Wasps, hornets and mosquitoes always seem inclined to leave the engine running.
