Ang25 suggested we start a new mini challenge idea to keep us occupied in between real challenges. I'd like to suggest a 10 minute landscape challenge. Use any models you like, skies you may have created, but see what you can achieve in roughly 10 minutes. This doesn't include render times, and no postwork allowed. Anybody care to give it a go? I'm off to get the ball rolling.

2 min in geo control  ( exclude about 2.5 min to render the terrain) export to bryce and duplicate terrain once.  set camera,  picked a preset terrain mat, imported a ballon I modeled long ago.  Selected a sky and added on volume cloud.  ...  running out of time... so I rendered.   Render time about 1 min.

Total elapsed time from opening geo control to formatting for upload and typing this right now.  32 min.

my sky sucks... but was running out of time with 10 min. constraints.

30 sec terrain in C4D .bugs pre-modeled in Bryce and added from my objects library in about 3-4 mins.  (i know, i know..it looks as if i might have spent.,,errrrrrr..8 mins on this.....lol)

Tweaked sky, preset clouds, random terrain with preset material. I have a habit of saving anything I like into a preset : ) You never know when things'll come in handy.

Cool stuff! I think Savant noir has the edge, very original! Is that geo control free? Nice landscapes going on there.

Ha!  Thanks!  It really is a VERY cool terrain....I wish i could do somethig with it!  Would love to give it to someone much more talented then me, and see what they come up with.  (i just do models, i can't do scenes.....and just having the terrain sitting on the grond floor isn't all that exciting)  Well, I could put water around it!  lol.  You'd be really hard pressed to make this terrain in Bryce......so if anyone wants it, just drop a note.

Geocontrol is amazing - but my demo has expired  and I don't have a spare 40 knocking around at the moment. The website claims you can just re-install the demo, but this seems to be lies. Well worth the money they ask though.

SavantNoir posted Mon, 25 June 2007 at 5:13 PM

u werent thinking proactively!! you shoulda made 20-30 terrains and stored them in your library!  lol

skiwillgee posted Mon, 25 June 2007 at 8:13 PM

Geo Control is worth the money, especially if you are into realistic landscape.  It gives user the ability to build and or manipulate terrain waaaaay beyond bryce terrain lab.

I haven't checked as of late, but he was going to release GeoControl Pro, which enables you to build and export 8 seamless terrains as 1 big unified mesh......out yet?

Yeh, I get very frustrated with Bryce terrains. I always look enviously at the terragen gallery.

MJW Terrain export and a greebled cylinder from AC3D, created some time ago that I never have used. Stock sky and textures except cylinder which is one of mine. Nice challenge and some really great images :-)
