In the 10 minute challenge thread there was a small side discussion about GeoControl, a terrain editor and generator.  I've had a little spare time to start to learn its controls and capabilites and I find it an amazing and perfect compliment to Bryce.  Its not cheap when compared to the $2 Hexagon,  free Bryce 5 , and free Wing3d but it isn't a bank buster also. ($87 USD).

I thought I'd show you a small example to the terrains it can generate and I have only scratched the surface.  All the terrains here are single 4096X4096 terrains that take about 2-3minutes to generate and export to Bryce. Once in Bryce you can continue to modify it in Bryce's terrain editor.  Each terrain I applied a simple (usually preset mat from B6) and rendered in a context I felt it fit.

This one I free handed the water into the gorge.

Applied a mat, a sky and rendered

Appled snow mat fm B6 called "altitude snow".  Note flow lines and natural smoothing in valley (all courtesy of GC)

Added a ringed like planet in background and some stars.    Sand mat fm B6 with difuse color altered to grey.  Terrain unaltered.

Really nice.  They look like they were done in Terragen, which always does great terrains.

Those certainly look terrific!

Very impressive terrains. I'm considering getting GeoControl.

GeoControl is worth it. This image I made a few months ago, days after getting GeoControl.

Hot damm skiwillgee, I like your third image. Me want texture, terrain...... 😄

I have the registered version and I use the menu command Terrain | Terrain Export... when displaying the Terrain tab (on the right of the program window). I don't remember exactly how things were in the demo, but I think it was exactly the same.

GIMP 2.7.4, Inkscape 0.48, Genetica 3.6 Basic, FilterForge 3 Professional, Blender 2.61, SketchUp 8, PoserPro 2012, Vue 10 Infinite, World Machine 2.3, GeoControl 2

usually demos have 2 weaknesses;

  1. you can't export (or not into anything useful)
  2. it only works for x number of days.

I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

As alexcoppo said, on my full version in tool bar drop dwn menu it is terrain/terrain export/PGM for Bryce.   The export function may be disabled in demo.   Save function may be disabled in demo also.

Since bryce accepts pgm terrains you can click the "e" and edit it once it is inside bryce (example- add noise or gaussian edges)

Did you know I asked for that feature while alpha testing gc, good to see people like it, also respect must go to bikermouse and as,as they showed me that bryce could import pgm to get higher resolution in terains.

for some free stuff i made
and for almost daily fotos

Analog-X - I downloaded the demo, and it IS fully functional.

alexcoppo's directions for saving the terrain in GeoControl work the same way in the demo version.

In Bryce, to import your terrain, go to File - IMPORT OBJECT - then upload your pgm file.  It will load up as an editable terrain.

I'm gonna play around with it and hoping to get some great looking terrains!  There aren't any presets with the demo.

Correction; the presets are working, too.
