Greetings.
Thank you for looking at my problem. This was the first image I made. The mask in Photoshop looked awful, so I took the oportunity to enhance the image.
So I used the "shiney" (okay you Firefly fans out there, it's what it was called) matterial option for JessiG2. Here was the result.
So ... now I would like to fix the glow on the inside of Jessi's lower lip, and the splotchiness on her skin. This is what I've tried so far.
I'm really in a quandery on this one. Anyone out there know how to fix this?
Thank you in advance.
Sincerely
~ Boni ~

Hi Boni
How's it going? Where there any nodes ( procedural or image maps ) applied to specular, ambient, or tranlucence surface settings?
Cheers

To me this looks like a bump map gone bad. Maybe applied to the gradient bump? Try it with no bump and see how that looks.
stormchaser posted Tue, 10 July 2007 at 3:14 PM
Boni - It seems you have AO applied to her fingers & nose, is there any applied to her mouth?
Boni posted Tue, 10 July 2007 at 6:50 PM
Patorak: Yes on all counts. math nodes. But I've played around with deleting and altering them with no change.
ghostofmacbeth: That's how it originally went bad ... but it didn't correct itself when I changed it "back".
stormchaser: The OA is only applied to the main light in front. Not to specific parts of the figure.
One thing that ... seems to have fixed it was turning on shadows for the key light and the back light. It even fixed the "freckles". I'll post the results when if finishes rendering. Wierd.
Peace and Thanks

Well, I think my major problem was with a too high map size for the main light ... and the backlight, which I removed, it caused several anomolies. So ... here is the latest. Let me know what you think before I post it to my gallery. Also ... I plan on using it for my avatar. I want it to be nice.
Learned a lot about nodes and look a couple of tutorials from bagginsbill to get to this.
Thank you everyone.

Hi Boni
She looks great. I was wondering if we could experiment a little with the material room before you post her to your gallery. If so I'll post an example and the settings.
Cheers

Sounds great. I'd love to do that. I already did the avatar ... small so it didn't matter as much. Thank you .... I look forward to working in the material room. I have to go today. But I'll be back tomorrow. :)
Peace

Thank you for your help. Thought I'd start by letting you see the settings I have already. This is the prepackaged "Ultimate" settings for JessiG2, in Materials. :)
I assume that each of your image maps are a bit different or you could plug them all into the core node at once. I look forward to your next step. :)
Okay here is screen shot #1.

Do you have UV mapper or UV mapper pro? Also, we'll be using PSP and PS CS2.
Boni posted Sat, 14 July 2007 at 1:15 PM
I do have UV Mapper (not pro) and I have PS CS2, but not PSP. This is a bit exciting! Ready. Or will be (I'm creating a model for the "Firefly" Verse ... and will need to switch over to my Wiccan Avatar!).

The first step is to place your original image map in a safe place and make a copy. From the copy we'll develope the 4 other maps.
BTW how long did it take to render your image?
Boni posted Sat, 14 July 2007 at 2:06 PM
Hmmm. I'd say about an hour. It usually does with blinns and such going on.
Boni.
Okay, save original map. Next? :)

Take the copy, load it into PS and turn it into a negative then greyscale it, remove the color. This will be the displacement map. In Poser plug the map into displacement with the following settings 0.002000. Post a render of the results.

With muliple projects going ... this will take a few days to complete. I'll be off line til later Monday ... but I do look forward to sending you the result of this project. Thank you for sharing this with me to learn ... for us all to learn.

Sounds good. We'll pick up when you return and start the specular map.
Boni posted Wed, 18 July 2007 at 3:04 PM
Okay, a couple days late ... sorry about that, but here is the render with the displacement map. :)
Please note that the lips are not a part of the map ... I hadn't applied it anywhere but the head.

What version of Poser are you using?
Boni posted Thu, 19 July 2007 at 10:57 AM
I am using Poser 6, with JessiG2. But I do believe that my original mat settings were over 2 hours long, not one, so this is faster. Also keep in mind that the hair takes quite a while and I have mat settings for the jewelry as well as custom eyes (not what came with Jessi) different objects entirely. This will all probably effect the render time. :)

I was curious about the artifacts on the neck and thought maybe it could pertain to this thread.

Anyway, on to the specular map. Load the color map into photoshop and greyscale it then in Poser apply the greyscale map to specular with the following settings. Specular value 0.8 and Highlight size 0.1 Post the results.
Boni posted Fri, 20 July 2007 at 1:04 PM
I'll have the new render up tomorrow! thanks again. Also thanks for the link on the artifacts.
