If you like well done photos, take a look at this man's website. On the equipment side, this is what he wrote to me:"I shoot Canon 20D and my 'working horse' lens is 500mm f4 IS plus 1.4X TC but any lens over 300mm or 400mm can do just fine - you just have to get closer too subject. In fact I have to back up sometimes as my minimal focusing distance is 15 feet.
I do spend hundreds of hours in field but you have to remember that nature is my life-time passion (I do have advanced degree in zoology)"
Look and enjoy, looking through the watermarks. TomDart.

Thank you for posting that Tom! It's inspiring for me to see people taking incredible shots with the 20D. So I guess it's true that most of the quality comes from quality glass. Now if I could just save up enough to get a couple high quality lenses...... :)

Oh,my new name..!
You will find a lot of photographers use the EF500 with the 1x4....700mm@f5.6...cant be bad :-) I take mine on and off the 500 accordingly!
Also, a cheaper alternative is to buy the EF300 f4 prime and use the 1x4...420@f4!
which I also use, or just the 300 by itself!

make that 420@5.6!

Yeppie, @ 5.6. Still, 5.6 works pretty well. My 300 has a similar teleconverter and it seems to do fine..unless light is really dim.
