Sorry for the OT, but this has been driving me crazy for a few months now and I'm no closer to an answer, so I thought I'd try here.
I am trying to remember the name of a movie.
I know it was in the theaters at one point. It had one or two well known actors in it (sorry, can't remember who though).
I think it was created in the mid to late 1980's (or maybe mid 90's) because I remember looking at the television guide and noticing the year and thinking "wow, we've come so far in cinematography since then" or "talk about low budget" or something like that.
I believe the plot was about 3 people who go out sailing and get caught in a storm.
What I remember most about it was the really, really bad water effects. The 3 people were on the boat in the front, holding on for dear life. The sail boat was rocking and rolling because of the huge waves which you could see in the background. It was obvious the waves were being projected on a screen behind the boat. There was lots of rain and occasionally you would see what amounted to a pail of water being thrown from the side on to one of the people to mimic a wave spash.
I thought it was called "Hurricane" or something like that, but whenever I look that up I get a bunch of hits for some Boxer guy.
Any clues?

Was it "Dead Calm"??? Came out in 1989... Nicole Kidman, Sam Neill & Billy Zane...Fits the 3 on a boat bit, was utterly forgettable for me though...

No. I saw Dead Calm and that wasn't it. There was no psycho aboard the boat. Just 3 people who went out sailing on a small sail boat and got caught in a storm. I didn't finish watching it because I fell asleep, lol
Nicole Kidman wasn't in this movie. I believe the "known" name was that of a male.
And it wasn't "Ordinary People" either because that doesn't involve a small boat in a torential storm.

No. If it's the movie I just found on the net, that was made in 2006 and has a bunch of Sweedish actors that I've never heard of before and the plot is about sex, not about a boat lost at sea in a storm.
This movie was made in the mid 1980's...or maybe the mid 1990's and was definitely about 3 people on a boat lost at sea during a bad storm.

No, it wasn't "The Perfect Storm". I saw that and it was a good movie, but it had way too many people on the boat.
"Lost!" I looked at that before. If the boat capsized in the movie I'm thinking of, I didn't see that part. I'll have to look around for a better review/synopsis of the movie because it's not really telling me that much.
For some reason I seem to think there was something about water, a type of weather, a storm or something along that nature for the title.
I have been coming that imdb.com site and looking at all US movies made between 1980 and the mid 1990s. I'm up to 1992 so far. I thought the name would jump out at me, but it doesn't seem to be, unless I haven't come to it yet, or maybe it wasn't made in the USA. I'll keep up the search because it's been driving me crazy for months trying to remember the name of it. LOL

What studio made it? You can look it up that way.
Was it a comedy? Action/adventure? Campy/Drama? Horror, Sci-Fi/Fantasy? Etc.
And you cant name any of the actors? lol.
Could it have been a Jaws type of movie? Sounds like a low budget film. I know movies pretty well and would need more info than 3 people in boat. :)

Yes I can stormchaser, i also learned a valuable lesson that day!
I hadn't long qualified as a diver and I got caught in an underwater current but hadn't realized it, plus with being in awe of what I was seeing made me not take notice of what was happening around me, very scary when I surfaced and found my boat a long long way away!!!!
I couldn't swim back to it either because it had got too rough on the surface and underneath the current was too strong to swim against so they had to send a line out, that day there was 4 of us rescued that way!!
Many dives since with no other incidents like it thankfully!!

Deep Rising wouldn't be it. Full of cheesy effects from top to bottom, but generally hilarious. It also has a cast count higher than three... er, when it starts, anyway! I'll check with the movie geek when he comes home tomorrow night. He might have an idea which one this is, or at least more titles for consideration. If it was one of the massively low-budget horror flicks, it may have changed titles half a dozen times, so it may be harder to find.

LOL, sorry!
I can't think of anything else that is distinctive. All I really recall is the basic plot about going out sailing and getting caught in a bad storm. Much of what I saw took place in near darkness because of the storm. I know there were 3 people, one a woman, all on the deck of the boat in the front pointy part of the boat. They had themselves tied to things so they didn't get washed overboard because of the waves (IE: pails of water being thrown at them). There was lots of rain and wind, and you could see mountainous waves behind them. The boats movements were not congruent with the waves, nor was the amount of water they were being splashed with, which is why I say the waves were projected on a screen behind the boat.

I remember there was this movie about a family that stopped at this island with their boat(suposedly in modern day times back then 80's or late 70's) and ran into a bunch of pirates that were still living like the old time pirates did. The pirates burn their boat and turn their kids into pirates while holding them prisoner or slaves. The son and daughter end up being turned into pirates too and dad and mom have to watch while plotting to escape with the family. I can't remember the name of that Movie but nobodies sold it that I know of. It was a good movie.
Acadia posted Wed, 25 July 2007 at 3:14 AM
Nope. Not Blue Lagoon, or the sequel. THB I don't know what happens. I only managed to see about 1 hour or so of it and didn't see the ending. So I don't know if they capsized and were rescued, or if they managed to get to land on their own of if they shipwrecked etc.
I just remember they went out on a pleasure sail and ended up caught in a terrible storm on the ocean, and that they tied themselves to parts of the boat so they wouldn't get swept over board. I remember torrents of rain, and it was very dark and lots of wind noise and one of the guys yelling so the others could hear him. I remember the huge big waves behind the boat and the boat not moving in the same fashion as the waves and what looked like small pails of water being tossed on the actors to mimic waves hitting the boat. It was the waves, the boat movement and the pails of water that made me think how corney the movie was considering the year it had been made.

Sounds like it was a very, very low budget type of movie with no famous people in it. There's no way to look up something like that. Could be a knock off of every other shipwreak movie.
Acadia posted Wed, 25 July 2007 at 2:52 PM
I'm pretty sure that this film was in the theaters, maybe not for very long, but it was. Heck the low budge Blair Witch Project shows up in movie lists, this one should too.
It's been so hot here that it's hard to concentrate. It's supposed to cool off in the next couple of days so I'll try looking through the movie lists again.

Reminds me, for some inexplicable reason, of a debate I heard on BBC R4 back in the '90s. Very serious Radio 4 bloke was chairing a discussion with some, equally distinguised, US guests on the upcoming Clinton impeachment hearings:
Radio 4 Bloke: "So what is the US public's attitude toward Ms. Lewinsky?"
Distinguished US journalist: "Whilst there is some sympathy for her as a young woman overawed by such a powerful figure, I think most people feel she should have kept the details to herself."
Radio 4 Bloke: "So most Americans probably think that Monica Lewinsky would have done better if she had kept her mouth shut?"
A long silence followed, punctuated with serveral grunts and snorts from the assembled experts. I nearly crashed my car.

Not sure whether this is pertinent but, back in my student days, I spent an evening in the kitchens of a cordon bleu restaurant in Honfleur stuffing canned snails into snail shells. As I say, probably irrelevant, but Honfleur is on the coast.

These angels can also become real demons! But they often sleep at 3, enlaced each other. You don't know which leg belongs to which cat. Or they make layers, one sleep ABOVE the other, and the third at the top! But sometimes, they are just running after the others all over the house!!

Didn't it just. As a geeky youth I trekked miles across town to an arthouse cinema that was meant to be screening Juliet of the Spirits, and didn't find out that they'd replaced it with King Kong vs Godzilla until I was inside. My girlfriend of the time never forgave me.
Remembering the appalling (dubbed) dialogue in that film reminded me of the worst subtitle I ever saw, and that's now given me a problem like Acadia's. There was this film about group of French ex-pats, stranded in a foreign land by WW2, and vying for the only available paying job - that of driving a truckload of unstable explosives over a mountain. At one point the hero leaps from the cab and shouts something incredibly rude in French, which was rendered in the English subtitle as "stop messing about", a phase that in 1960's England had a resonance so at odds with the subject matter as to be hilarious.
Anyways, I'm sure the film is some sort of famed classic, but what's it called? I've spent hours searchim IMDB.
