Usually, I have only six forums in "My Forums".
I just clicked on the link "make all [forums] visible" to see if any new forums
had been started in the last few months and every thing appears permanently,rather than temporarily. So, I had to untick nearly everything again.
My question is: Is this the way it is intended to work?

Yes, if you 'make all forums visible', it ticks all the forums in your forum options. If you just want to check for any new forums, you can just go to your forum options and look at it that way so you dont have to go back and untick them ;)
