I am trying to render a poser person and make everything else invisble, but eventhough I've ticked the hide from render box, and also checked "render only visible layers" and also closed the little eye on the layers, the ecos still show up when I render. Love esther
I aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!

If they are painted ecos, and not "parented" to a specific object, I think you can't hide them. But if they are "material eco" then hiding the parent object should hide them also.

Mmh ... why don't you just use two versions of your scene ... one with and the other without eco ... or if you want to render just the Poser person and switch everything to invisible - then just erase the eco objects (the automatic and/or hand-drawn ecos) just for that render - shouldn't harm anything, if you have your comlete scene (with the eco) saved on your harddisk ...

The way I do this is change my eco to objects(if painted) and after i render what I need. I revert back to instances :)

Why not put the poser figure on one Layer by itself, and hide all of the other Layers.
Then you could render with the setting Only Visable Layers checked?

maybe because the ecos were global or something, but making the layers visability invisible didn't stop the ecos showing. In the end it was easier to make a copy of the file and delete the painted ecos by selecting them from the menu up at the top of vue. Love esther

The only way I've ever been able to get this to work (when using global ecos) is using the "Render Selected Objects Only" and then select whatever objects you want rendered in the scene. Global Eco's can't be selcted as objects, so by default, using this mode will not render them.
