You can view the entire package in the link provided above.... scroll about 1/2 way down and you will see the "click for additional product images" (29 in all).Nice but a bit out of my price range. Perhaps CP will have a better discount on them??

Nope, $25 at CP.. and the basic figure came free with P7, if you have that. The new one appears to have 3 additional head variations (meshes), and 4 textures, and what looks like a surfboard type thing.
His main promo might be cool art, but it's pretty difficult to see what's actually in it.
IMHO, there should be a popup showing his accessories, one showing the different heads, and at least one more showing of the different textures, if not a popup for each one.

There are pop ups at his main site. don't know if CP is showing all of them. I'm not really enjoying going there much these days as there is an overwhelming amount of stuff from Vanising Point that's really too much to wade through these days. Sometimes you see ONE Poser specific thing on a whole page of crafts and what not from that company. Nice works but sheesh!! Too much!!

Gareee posted Sun, 05 August 2007 at 1:17 PM
Nope.. it's more a robot cat then anything else.
You could probably hide the head, and use teh toonycat head as a prop head for him though, with that, or the millenium cat head.
As far as price, I just compare him with other products out there, and he seems about $5-$10 overpriced, even at his sales price. He's a well modeled but simple rigged figure, with no expression capability, and no morphing at all.
Look at a nitch sixus figure for $5-$10, or even a dark whisper figure with a pile of accessories for $15.

My oly gripe about SanctumArts stuff is they seem to ignore anything above Poser 4. Dunno if it's changed with this cat model but the VAP Grim Expansion and Pitbull gave me conniptions with all the faffing around to make the materials suitable for P6.
If it wasn't for nruddock kindly making a couple of very useful Python scripts I'd have lost what remains of my sanity a long time ago.
Price wise, I don't mind forking over for SA stuff because the textures alone are phenomenal. I don't think I'll be buying the cat any time soon but it's certainly something I'd like to buy in the future.

Nice Kitty there - but too pricey for my tastes as well - moreso as like Garee says theres the freebie in P7.
Having just bought the SA Pitbull from CP when it was on sale - I was a little dissapointed that it unzips into "SA VAP Pitbull LAAVRuntime" Instead of Runtime. The large amount of groups makes changing materials a pain as well.
Don't get me wrong it's a great model, the SA stuff is spot on - the howler was the 1st model I bought here. But after spending nearly $30 - have to spend a few hours tweaking doesn't make you feel more inclined to spend there again too soon.
OT - RamWollf - I see your comment about the excess of VP stuff at CP - I gather from the VP team most of the Max conversions are nearly done - but if you have any helpfull suggestions to how they can display a load of stuff without being overwhleming I'll pass them on.

SA does some great looking stuff, and the promos look killer, but then when you actually get it, you find various issues.. very high poly count meshes, no morphs, no mat poses or material collections for various poser/ds versions, that sort of thing, and if yer gonna present yourself (as he has) as "better" then the rest of the content creators out there, then you need to include those things that they include as well.
A good product doesn't just look good in promo images, it also has all the basic built in end users features most people come to expect as standard.
A another good example of this is Dark Whisper's new Toon Mouse. A premium toon character price, far fewer included clothing or props then say, the Heavies, and not even grasp and thumb erc dials in the hands and feet.
Look at Sal A. Manda's product pack, and then Toon Mouse, and you see what I mean.
The innovative new eye control system is really nice.. I love it, and using magnets for the toon eye shape is great, but he's got no female partner, or female morphs, so there's a great missed oppertunity there.
That's why I do expansions in a lot of cases.. I just see so many missed oppertunites in some product releases.

Get thee to the Python Forum and grab the scripts I use. One disconnects everything from the Specular_Color channel, the other disconnects everything from Reflection_Color, so you can kill off the fake reflections. There's also a script to move bumps from Gradient_Bump to Bump.

Sanctum art seems to focus on highly detailed
mechanical military / sci fi models
why would a special use armored robot/mech/vehicle suit etc need morphs??
For that matter why would his Drub or havok creature need morphs??
to make them even more ugly or scary looking??
I Do agree that the damnable "environmental map channel" in all of his textures
to fake reflections in outdated render engines ,needs to go!!
but I render in Cinema4D so for me it a matter of selecting ALL materials in the
non-modal materials pallete and killing the environmental map in one shot.
And sanctumart does give MANY mat poses with his products
I Haveall of RDL7 and those HAZMAT suites have at least 9 click to change mat pose
presets
MY area is Hard core Sci-fi and frankly Sanctums and Stonemasons products are the only ones that Have the quality Im looking for.
on the price thing I probably spend about $30-$55 a YEAR!!
on poser stuff so $25 is not a major outlay for me

You've sen what morphs and built in scaling can do for a figure.. all my pruducts inclue them and push them as far as possible.
Same holds true for mecahnical items as well.. my Klank morph set, Robogrrrl, and Funcat sets all show that you can do a hell of a lot with morphs and scaling, and there's not reason why SA's sci fi tech doesn;t have them other then laziness.
Same with his creatures.. scaling options, and morphs would make then a lot more appealing, but again, SA just gets by with the bare minimum.
And while $25 isn't uber expensive, it IS when you compare it with other similar products out there. If you got all those other nifty features for aying a premium price, I wouldn't mind, but when creators skimp on features, they lower the value of their products.
And I know yer a drum beater for SA... not meaning to rile you up, but you know full well what I'm talking about.

*I used to think like that by primarily buying on promo images. But I've discovered theres stack of vendors who can provide some real goodies and great support and for a lot less money.
I also find these vendors are more "upfront" in their promos as well. A big annoyance for me is when a vendor renders or postworks the image and no matter what you do in Poser theres no way your image will ever look like that.

RoboNeko does look like it has some morph-like options, the head gear is changeable. I can't tell if other parts are switchable. It's possible a 3rd party could make morphs for RoboNeko to further customize the figure. The body shape on this one is like Garfield. I would want to morph him if I got him. Hmm... Didn't someone make a Garfield? I wonder how he would look in RoboNeko...? I rarely use MAT poses, so that's not such a big deal to me. I haven't bought any SA products, but RoboNeko is tempting. Neftis made the Garfield figure, (FatCat) but he's no longer available, and she hasn't been answering emails for some time. She occasionally does a product for daz now, but poor traffic and sales at her website just made it no longer worth persuing, and she's a great content creator, so that's a real shame.
The head on this guy looks more like different head geometry on different provided figures, or geo switch, one of the two, because of the texture details, and completly different structure.
And while SA provides different mats for his figures, he does not provide mats for anything beyond basic P4, and that's a crying shame, as SamTherapy pointed out. The firefly engine can do a whole lot more then P4's could, and I just don;lt think you can be a "superior" content creator for poser completely ignoreing the plethora of available new material options.
Les does it over at Sixus, and provides that for figure 1/6th the price of Neko.

Not getting "riled up" Garee nor am a" drum beater "for SA in fact I dont even know the man.
I guess my perspective is a little different when it come sto this 3D stuff
I dont go looking for a one model that can do and be "everything" in my renders.
I accept the concept of "special purpose"models/props that are made for one thing
as long as that one thing looks really good in my renders.
textures make or break the 3D render
When one looks at the incredible details in his textures compared to the frankly half hearted
low res efforts being offered elsewhere one cant say he just "gets by" with the" minimum"
and in the interest of full disclosure I NEVER render anything in poser firefly
nor do i care for its tedious material node wire setups
once i mass kill the Fake SA refection maps in Cinema4D I have ALL the options of Cinemas Advanced renderer
such as SSS,sub poly displacement etc.etc.
so the Compatibility with firefly is truly Non Issue for me
I look for a long list of "features" in a full program
not in one model.

I would assume that when you click on it, you don't have to "wade through" all the non-Poser stuff.
But, in response to your question, I think it's very exciting that we at Vanishing Point are able to sell the De Espona Studio Max models at Content Paradise. Even though CP is mainly know for Poser products, we're happy to have the opportunity to expand into a new market like this.

CP has grown well over the last year and with your own business growing and changing for the better but offering so many products it was getting a bit much. I checked in and found that CP now has two links. One is called All New Releases and the other is called Poser New Releases I went to the CP support forum and thanked them and then suggested yet another link for 2d products be implemented. I meant no harm or anything by my complaint it was just getting to be, as stated and very much the truth of the matter, a bit overwhelming. I'm glad that CP got on that and made it better for those of us that shop mostly for Poser content!

Not to add more fuel to the fire, Wolf, but let me clarify why some of us need morphs. One of the things I do are book covers for e-publishers, and those, while paying ok, usually don't pay enough to justify shelling out $30+ for a new figure every time an author wants a demon or alien figure, so some versatility is welcome, as I can't use the same alien (or demon) on two covers unless it's a series. Mind you, I'm saying some; I wouldn't expect Alpha to morph into Hello Cthulhu, or have a geometry switch to turn him into Scythe with fully erc-ed tail. Just some expression morphs -I had to do my own with magnets to take Alpha beyond "BLEAAAAARGH!!!"- and maybe options to make it scrawny or heavy, as sometimes you do want your aliens/demons to be more bony or fat, or if you need more than one, you want them to have some differences other than just the colour, unless your critters are clones.
And what if the author comes back and says "everything is ok, but in the book I'm describing the critter just like you did but with arms reaching the floor and a big head", what am I going to do? Re-rig it all so there's ERC and I can do that? do a composite? I have the option of pulling lil Alpha into C4D and doing mods in there -and it is something I've been doing with other stuff in my latest batch of cover artwork- but it would certainly be nice to have the option since the critters are premium price, and I would even be willing to shell a touch more money for them if they included these. As it is, I've kept from purchasing any more of his critters because of these usage limitations. Besides, I do like making stuff my own when creating images, either by mixing outfits or creating my own textures or taking something a bit beyond what it was intended for, so having a really cool mean-looking alien out of the box that can only be a cool mean-looking alien of a different colour can be a touch dissapointing too.
And as I said in the thread at DAZ, it would be nice if P7 owners got an upgrade package priced accordingly.
Edited to add: waiting for the UK release of Solid State Society, I've pre-ordered it as soon as the option was available, but damn these delayed R2 releases :(

Yep. if something;'s inexpensive, I can forgive missing features, but when someone presents themselves as one of the best content creators and consdiers thier stuff far superior to other products and publically justifies much higher prices because of that, then they need to back that up with thier product releases. Createing top of the line P4 content isn' the same as creating top of the line P7 content.. there are tons of new features to exploit.
A good comparison, is look at Nebras, with his companion textures and morph set.. just amazing rigging, scaling features, and versitality.
Then look at any of the phenotypes.. great looking, yes, but missing SO many features compared to Nebras.

Hey all,
The "textures" you see there are nothing more than just diffuse colors and one included reflection map. I actually changed out the colors to ones I like more. One thing about that little kitty is that there are LOTS of mapped zones so changing things like the "head" of the tail (LOL) and the logo on the front were easily done. In that way this is a useful and fun product. Free or not.
Gareee, you could easily take this freebie under your wing and expand on it. There are so many things I could see to improve it's shape and expand on what can be done, it's not even funny!! I think it's well made and all but I'm sure not going to spend $25.00 on basically a pack full of different faces, a sky board and a new color schemes!!!

I wrote to their customer support and asked if there would be an upgrade price for P7 owners. I was basically told no, because they've remapped the original, there's a new CR2 with the switch geometry for the new heads, and there's "substantial add-ons" enough to consider the P7 version a "Lite" version; and of course having a lite version didn't grant me a discount on the full version.
Which means I'll pass on him, and create new textures for this guy if and when I want to use it.

so to each their own
Wolf, I understand you don't want to buy or even use P7; I use C4D myself and I've been hating Poser more and more for rendering, although as a content creator myself I do need to use Poser for setup of materials and testing. And of course it doesn't make sense to you to buy a new piece of software for a single item that comes with it and that you can get for $25.
If the price tag is right for you, then fine. But what I think a few of us are trying to say is that it 's annoying that for instance, if I wanted to use one of those for a bookcover, there's a very distinct chance it will look identical to yours, and that the mesh creator has not -and never has done in his other products either- provide ways to make the product even a little bit changeable or distinguishable from what someone else is doing or even from your own previous work. As it is, between paying $25 for something that I will still have to pull into C4D to change to suit my needs, and also re-doing textures to have something fresh, and using the free version I've got already that requires just a touch more work than that, I'd go with the latter.
Edited to add: your renders are looking very good, btw. I've been eyeing S&T and the Dynamics plug-in but I'm not in need of those things at the moment, and I'm having enough fun with the hair module. C4D is a great application for using Poser content.

I accept the realty that anyone can get the same model and
props and render them too.
But honestly its the same to varying degrees with the stuff for ubiquitous 'V" chick
Uzilite Makes some great Sci-fi Stuff but honestly do you really see alot of truly different options for "Liquid Halo" or "Major Cache"I have and Like BOTH these product s
BTW.
Additionaly I have and Like Stonemasons 'Dark star" and "Generic Sci fi Corridor"
But i seen no built in option to make my Sci fi renders with those products look signifigantly distinquishable from every other user other than opening a hatch or two.and of of course using the superior render/lighting Environment of C4D.
If I may be truly frank with you I suspect alot of the aversion to SanctumArt is not So much his products but his steadfast refusal to come in the various poser forums and play "kissy face" with the great "unwashed masses".
but i dont care about his personality or lack thereof
I just want good quality Sci-if Content products even special use ones.
Cheers

So wolf359, you have the set. Is the sets for M3 and V3 a typo?

Wolf, I agree to a certain extent. The way I get around the limitations of the content when it comes to clothing, aside from changing textures and shaders, is to combine different outfits to create new looks; that way it can work as a real wardrobe, and things can be mixed and/or overlaid for a different look, so while Major Cache or Liquid Halo as full packages can't be made that different, their pieces can be used combined with others to add touches of sci-fi to otherwise basic looks. I even made a post on this in the DAZ forum (found here, for the curious). Problem is, when doing cover requests, an author doesn't usually describe the surroundings too much except in general terms (sci fi corridor, ship interior, forest with a lake in the background or whatever) but they normally go through quite some length to describe the hero/heroine, their appearance, hair style and colour, and clothing. And if there's a monster, that too. If an author tells me the heroine has a longer nose or an oval face or thinner lips I can dial those up in Poser. If the body is different from the default I can use the morphs, and use one of the magnet kits, XDresser, WW or whatever to fit it to the figure I need it for. But if they tell me "the monster needs arms reaching the floor" I am going to kick myself if I spent $50 in a monster that has no ERC to do this, and the author and my Art Director are not going to be happy if it's the same monster that's being used to advertise the fast food joint down the street.

That might be the case for a lot of people. I know for experience that customers do like to interact with you and to see you approachable as a vendor, maybe because it gives them the idea that if they have issues they can write to you and your tech support will be there. I think I've given enough technical reasons for my reluctance to buy more from SA, though, and I suspect a few here that produce content and are aware of the time it takes to do certain things might also be speaking from that perspective (i.e. creating enhanced shaders for the textures in P5+ as opposed to saving the P4 mat as an mc6).
But as you say, you're working on a very specific style, so most of the above really won't apply too much to you. It's really a matter of perspectives. My assignments tend to go more towards fantasy/historical so of course I'm going to be more on the lookout for something I can use all over the board, and sci-fi will come under a much closer scrutiny.
But if I ever do textures or models suitable for hard sci-fi, I'll be sure to let you know :)

There is an old rule in art: If you use clip art, change it. I try to do the same thing in 3D. If I buy content, I try to change it to add my own twist or at least make it interesting in a different way. For instance, can you tell what top I used here? http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1493390 Or what hair I used here? http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1504507 I think both are recognizable, but they are custom morphed. ^^ I will be tackling a customization of RoboNeko soon. I have a character in mind, so I will try to alter him into the look I want. bB

Nice, wolf! I have to say, I do love the toon colouring, you're making me reconsider my stance of not needing Sketch & Toon :)
wolf359 posted Sun, 26 August 2007 at 10:24 AM
Thanks!!
its a great fast illustration tool (sketch &Toon)
I started out over 30 years ago collecting marvel comics
and learning to draw those characters.
after years of doing 3D and going for photo realistic renders animations etc.
I find my self these days only interested in watching animae and other well drawn cartoon DVDs .
sort of returning to my artistic "roots" I suppose.
anyway its got me more artisticly inspired than ive been in a long time ..
.....off to render more panels
thanks again

I have this kitty and it is great.
Gareee, I have been meaning to ask since I am unfamiliar. Can you please provide links too all the stores you sell at, under whatever name, and your product inventories? I am not sure where to look or what to search for.
Thanks for the links.

That's a great looking product - the premium pricing in general (inc other vendors) tends to make me wait off buying stuff til I have an exact use in mind rather than "collecting" for later use or general playing around as happens with the cheaper and mid-range stuff. I'd want the want the Kitties as huge bully-boys rather than cuties though I think - I like the idea of them having a cute/pet/toon-like shape but actually being big heavy-armour bastards...real metallic-grey city-stompers...
I think there are texture sets around for the Phenotype figures, but I don't think they're by SA himself.
Hey Wolf, does that comix software allow you to do black speech bubbles with white or coloured typo? With the heavy neon vibe of the artwork there it might knit the whole thing together better - make the balloons seem less pasted-over if that makes sense? As each SAK figure has a different colour-scheme you could make their speech colour match up too so you can tell who's speaking even if they're out of frame.
Cheers
