Riddle me this and that.
I've sold a lof of sets... but I never see them in the galleries... it irks me... I do this mainly to see ppl use them (money's nice but seeing someone enjoy my hard work is better!)...
so.. what are ppl doing with my sets I wonder....?
Valerian70 posted Tue, 07 August 2007 at 9:35 AM
Probably the same as I do with at least 50% of my bought stuff - render it for images that I never post online. Of course at least 20% of what I buy never gets beyond being added to my Runtime because I buy more than is sensible.
Same here actually, I make sales and I have yet to see more than the very occassional image using it. Those that I do see tend to be because it is someone who tested the set for me doing the render :o(

I find the same thing.
Some of it is because a lot of people don't use the credit thingie, so unless you visit every single gallery image, you're not going to see them.
I have a feeling a lot of my yoga sets may end up on the more adult sites' galleries...

I've been brokering products for a long while now and I can tell you that this has always been my experience as well. So it looks like this is a permanent phenomena as well as a consistent one.
I feel the same way you do Khai, I like to see my stuff being used. That is one of the best things about putting items in Freestuff. I figure if a set is downloaded by a few thousand people maybe there's a better chance of someone actually using it and posting a render :)
Also, I sell a lot of different products to different people every month. The majority of whom never post a render to anywhere I've noticed. It makes me more appreciative of these customers who actually buy my stuff because if they aren't ever going to post a render who would ever know if they just went ahead and downloaded it from a p2p site?
MachineClaw posted Tue, 07 August 2007 at 11:29 AM
A large section of customers are not part of the various "communities" and do not post in forums nor in online galleries.
Another section of customers do not post in online galleries due to the ripping of art and copyright tubing going on.
I only have 2 images in my gallery and both are natural media hand draw not poser art. Once your art is claimed as someone elses it's hard to share by posting to the online galleries anymore, least that is my reason and experience.
Then there are just the Poser collectors that buy and never unzip or render at all.
Better to have sales then no sales at all, least ya know people are liking and buying.
Khai posted Tue, 07 August 2007 at 11:38 AM
actually thats part of the problem. I know pp are buying. but are they liking? I don't get much feedback from buyers (I think 1 or 2 comments in the last 4 years... and 1 second hand comment that was relayed to me). without seeing the sets used I have no idea if ppl like 'em or not or what to improve etc...

Well first I clicked your homepage and looked for a store, then freestuff - nothing/nothing.
So I clicked the link in your sig - found a forum. Scrolled all the way down 2-3 times looking for some indication of store. nothing
Look up to the top again, AHAH there in the top right corner is a tiny link to a "store". So I looked through your stuff, it's unfortunate that you keep it so well hidden because I probably would have used a few of those environments in the past.
I book marked you anyway. I like to make a point to let venders see the work I have done with thier stuff, or at least let them know what I like about it. Sometimes I feel a bit silly, because i know my work is really not that great - but I do it anyway because I know if it was me I would want to see no matter what. Do unto others....

Many times I buy things because I LOVE the way it looks, and then it sits and waits for me to find time to play with it. I have easy 2 year backlog on things that I bought vs. what I actually got around to using.
I have all theese wonderful scenes in my head, and have purchased most of the props I need to assemble them... They're still only in my head....

Hmm I didn't find you there either, only efrontier and RDNA came up when I clicked all time best sellers.
I did find you when I entered sixus1 though. I normally don't shop at CP at all. Combination of OCD and CPs pages loading slow as hell. But your morgue set looks neato so soon enough Ill have to : p

I have most of the sets and have used several for private work (generally for wallpapers for hubbies logon) and they have never seen the light of day and won't because they were made for him from me. Pleased with all the ones I've used and undoubtedly I'll buy more in the future - just keep the clowns hidden, they creep me out :oP

Guilty as charged M'lud!!!
I have some of your sets including Tomb Of the Ancients which I have done renders with, at least one of which is posted here!
There are also images with elements from it in, like the guys hanging upside down!
Recently I haven't been using the credit system because half the time I can't remember who I bought stuff off! [LOL]
Also I have that much stuff in my runtime I forget it's there until I go browsing in a bored moment and suddenly see something and it's like "Oh I forgot I had that" [LOL].

I usually try to notify freebie providers if I use their items in a render. Some take the time to check it out and others don't. I haven't done it often for commercial products. In a lot of stores, such as DAZ, there's no easy way to provide that notice to the content creator (no website or . I haven't been making much of an effort to let commercial product creators know that I've used their stuff, but I'll try to do a better job of it in the future. A fifth of my images, in my gallery here, have used something from Sixus1. I've still got two more, temporarily set aside, that used some Sixus1 characters.
You do realize that you could be opening Pandora's box...
I can understand wanting to see how the products are being used. The model is the creator's art and art needs to be seen.

it's not so much being told that my stuff's been used.. it's when you see 1500 copies sold and nada.... not even a flat squeak... you wonder where have they gone? what are ppl doing with them? was everything to their liking or was there things that can/could be improved.....?
jjroland posted Tue, 07 August 2007 at 6:40 PM
Once I mailed a very popular vender here about a problem I found with thier item. I guess it wasn't so much thier product, the problem I had was with the runtime structure. They responded to tell me basically "oh well".
Kinda gave me the impression they didn't really want to know.

I don't think I have ever bought anything of yours, if you only sell at CP I probably wouldn't either.
Unfortuanately I avoid CP as much as I can, as the site just does not work for me. It is just too slow, too graphic intensive & not user friendly at all. Pages take 2-3 minutes to load, & that is with broadband. Search function is pretty useless, & most of the content is just too hard to find. So I stay away unless I am desperate for something I have seem elsewhere.
You can do a word search in the galleries here - Sixus
Edited to Add: So is Sixus a group of people or just you? I forgot I do have H.E.R, I haven't used her in a while, but do like her.

That makes it harder to notify you if one of your Sixus1 products was used versus one of Les' products--unless the readme is specific about who created the products. I looked at some readmes and the Les Garner creature creations don't list either his name or yours (just Rebekah for support) while the sets list Les first and you second. I guess that provides a way to figure out who was involved in the product. Without your post prompting my curiosity to look, I wouldn't have known about that difference.
It appears I've bought some of your sets, but haven't gotten around to using them in a render. I think most Poser users are pack rats that accumulate a lot of products, commercial and freebies, so that they will be available the instant they have a hankering to create an image where some of those products will be useful. The majority of content they collect will probably never see the light of day.
The odds are still pretty good that somebody has done a render with one of your products. It takes time to dig up the readmes and compose a message to let a content creator know that their product was used and most artists probably don't bother to take that step. In cases where the runtime library product name isn't the same as the zip file, the artist won't be able to find out whose product it was without a lot of trouble.
If an artist goes to the trouble to notify a content creator that their product was used, there's an expectation that the content creator will take the time to look and leave them a comment on it.. In my case, I won't make a second effort to notify a content creator that I've used their product if they didn't respond the first time. There's no bad feelings involved. If the freebie is a few years old, there's a fair chance the email address is no longer valid; the person may not speak English well; the creator may no longer be interested in Poser; and any variety of other valid reasons to not hear back from them. I've had a better than 75% response rate, so it's a nice way to get a little more visibility for a new image in a gallery.

I've got a number of your sets Khai - I got them for larger project ideas rather than individual render ideas. I'm sure I'm not alone in earmarking different products for different uses.
Also people will buy stuff while they're on sale or "hot" without an imediate use. Which is better than storing them in a gigantic wishlist I guess.
Cheers

A lot of people buy stuff and don't always post here in the gallery. I buy a lot of stuff but don't always post here. Your stuff is awesome and I'm sure people make great renders with it.
