I was just hoping someone might have some suggestions on how to create new leaves for Vue trees....

How about learning from others? Here is a link to Varians site - where you can find alternative leaves (for Vue 4) that probably help you to understand how it is done.One day your ship comes in - but you're at the airport.

Also, the AsileFX tutorial is really good, but you have to pay for that.
