This is my first dynamic hair for V4:

Someone over at the DAZ forums said they're having problems with it, that it loads as a blank prop...or something like that.  (the forums just went down for maintenance).  Is anyone else having a problem with it?

Thanks BAR-CODE.  😄

I really hope there's not something wrong with it.  :(

Brand new program for me, new kind of freebie...I guess I should have asked for some testers first.

You're welcome Miss Nancy.  😄

BAR-CODE, I get the exact same thing when I try to load the hair into an empty scene.  Try loading V4 and dragging the hair (from your Browser) onto her.  That should (hopefully) work.

Miss Nancy, that would be great if you could test it out as well.  Thanks!

Nope dragging the  "hair".CAR into a scene opens the "hair.car" into a NEW scene for it..
Importing it into the scene with a V4 give me the same empty cube ...

I wish i knew the anwser for your... but for now im just happy i know enough English to make you under stand what i get from it

Okay, I just tried "importing" the hair and yeah, that won't work.  You need to add the hair to your Content Browser and the drag it from the Browser onto V4.  Try these steps and see if that works:

  1. Extract contents of the Zip to the location of your choice.

  2. Start Carrara 6 and create a new scene, or open an existing one.

  3. Load Victoria 4 from your Content Browser.

  4. Go to your Objects Browser and select "Add Folder" from the "File/Folder menu".

  5. Browse to the location where you extracted the zip contents and select the "Sheyna Hair V4 (Neyjour)" folder, then click "OK".

  6. Select "Objects" as the type of files to display and click "OK".

  7. Slide down the Objects list and click on "Sheyna Hair V4 (Neyjour)".

  8. Click, drag and drop the Sheyna Hair onto Victoria 4.

Yay!!!  I'm glad it worked!  Thanks so much for testing it out BAR-CODE.  If I need help testing again in the future, I'll definitely give you a holler.  Thanks!  😄

The list of instructions that I posted are actually from the Readme.  I just copy/pasted.  ;)

About the thumbnail image...I asked about that in the Carrara forum and was told that dynamic hair doesn't generate an image for the preview thumbnail.  So, there's nothing to be done about that, unfortunately.  :(

Heh.  😄

Yeah, it would be great if someone could figure out a way to add an image to the preview.  Don't know if it's even possible though, since it's all one file...if you know what I mean.  It's not like Poser, where you can delete the .png image and replace it with your own.

Mmm yeah ok thats right but it reads the PNG's from poser runtime's 😉
So you never know hehe

But maybe its a good idea to put it in for a Upgrade version ??
"thums for dynam. hair" ...
It might be something they just forgot

Yeah, it seems a bit odd that everything else generates an image, but hair doesn't...

And I really wish we could make our own preview images.  I made some glass and organic shaders and the images it generated for them looked nothing like the rendered images.  :(

Would be nice if there was an option when you saved objects and such.  Sort of an "Auto-Generate Preview On/Off".  If you toggle it to "Off" it prompts you to browse for the image you want to be 'imbedded' in the file for the preview.

Ahh!!!  How exactly did you do that?  Where is the option for "Scene Preview ON"?

BAR-CODE posted Thu, 13 September 2007 at 6:46 PM

Mmm okay just this quick repley ...
When you save your hair it will give you "when you have Options on at the first save window"
a option window where you can say you want a preview save with the hair..
that will make a render thumb of the view that you have at that time..
So be sure you have a good lighting etc etc in your main view while saving..

Let me know if you get my point ... otherwise i''l make some "show and tell" image for you tomorrow... its almost 2'o clock at night so im out of here 😉

Please post some screenshots tomorrow!

I can't figure out how to do it...this is the only box/options that I get when saving it.

he's referring to the option for saving a preview with the car file. sheyna hair works in c6pro-X. (see the attached link) if possible, please explain in detail there how you created the dynamic hair item.

Neyjour posted Thu, 13 September 2007 at 11:44 PM

Yeah, I know, but I don't know how he did it.  When I save, I don't get an option to save with a preview...just the box for a name and comments.

Did you want me to explain how I actually made the hair or how I saved it after I was done?

Miss Nancy posted Thu, 13 September 2007 at 11:58 PM

yes, both. what he was doing was saving a car file externally using the file menu in the menu bar, as opposed to saving an object to the objects browser. there is currently no way to hack the daz folder containing the browser objects to change the thumbnail display. for the thumbnail to display, the object must be displaying in the assembly window during the procedure of adding the object to the browser.

Neyjour posted Fri, 14 September 2007 at 12:11 AM

Ah, I see.  But in his screenshot it looks like he somehow saved it to the Browser...

I'll do a little write up tomorrow on how I made and saved the hair.  I created a thread in the Carrara forum (Dynamic Hair Showcase) for people to do that.  Will link it to your thread when I'm done.  😄

Just a little thing ....?!?
The file size went from 1mb "yours" to 12MB ?  i cant believe a thumbnail makes it 11 MB bigger...

I reckon the new object includes v4.1. there may be a way to hack the thumbnail in OS X, but it may not work in XP/vista.
