Well, folks, after waiting all summer, the new version of Blender is out! Yay!
BlenderNation did an article on it, though blender.org hasn't updated its own site yet. If you haven't gotten any version yet, make sure to get your copy today! (while supplies last)

I realize that ysrvy already mentioned the 2.45 release in an earlier post, but we have to announce these things properly, don't we?

Oh, and if you have any comments to share, please post them below. (R'osity doesn't like it when we do put posts above, after all).

For those who have already gotten it, what kind of improvements does it have over 2.44?  Is there enough improvement to warrant a Blender newb like myself to get it, or is it changes mostly Blender vets would appreciate?

Molina, I believe the new release has better Python integration, which is all I care about.

ysvry, this is definitely the full release because there is no RC_ appended to it.

I don't really even know what Python is.  So far all I've done is heard of it.

Seriously, though, Python is the programming language that runs every import/export operation and plugin. V. 2.5 was required for Blender 2.44.

I want to buy or build a workstation to work with Blender on. I have already seen the blender.org site min and optimal specs for Windows.
Any suggestions on what I can get for around $1200 Canadian that will be Blender-friendly, especially for sculpted models (I assume dense meshes)?
Thanks.

For Sculpting - as much RAM as possible.

If self building I'd say go with an e2160 from intel - overclock it like mad and then use the money saved versus a more expensive processor on RAM and gfx card.

Take a look at Toms Hardware for an idea of how far you can push these little babies....
