Hello all
I am a new Carrara user(5 pro) My question is, is Cinema 4d R10 superior to Carrara 6 ? The daz website does a side by side comparison that makes it seem like Carrara has more features, but Cinema 4d is probably used by more proffesionals in industry. It also costs more.
I have downloaded a trial version of cin 4d. It does not seem as easy to use as Carrara. Is it trully superior to our Carrara ? Should I switch ???????????????

Don't believe much of that comparison chart. It tells you a lot of things that the other apps don't have when they do and do it better. I would not put Carrara in the same catagory as C4D but Carrara does hold it's own for it's price.
You might find that upgrading to Carrara6pro a better choice, money wise. At least till you know for sure you want to spend the bigger bucks. Carrara is a good, all in one, app. And the sale price for the upgrade is a very good deal right now.
Just so you know, I'm not pushing Carrara. I use Vue6.5I, Modo301, Carrara6Pro, and Poser7 as my main tools. Each one does something the others don't. or does it faster/easier.

Comparison charts as well as any literature on a product is advertising. It meant to show the product in it's best light.
The question is not which software is better, it's which software best meets my requirements.

My question is, is Cinema 4d R10 superior to Carrara 6 What major motion picture has used Carrara for its special effects? What minor TV show?

Here it is, I've been looking all over for this thing:
http://wiki.cgsociety.org/index.php/Comparison_of_3d_tools
A whole lot more even-handed comparison.

That comparison chart is WAY out of date!
Certainly in relation to Carrara 6 Pro at least!

It all dependes on what you want to do. C4D has 3 levels Standered, XP & Studio. The price goes way up with each version.
C4D does not do lands, plants (you need plugins), does not do (hair unless you get Studio or buy the extra 550-600$ module). Good rigging is done with Mocca 3 an extra 550-600$(it has muscles and dynamic cloth). C4D is a much better poligon modeler than Carrara 6 Pro (in my opinion), but if you have Hexagon you can do verry good modeling with it for less $. You need to add Advance Renderer to get AI, AO & Caustics an extra 550-600$...
C4D R 10 includes BodyPaint R3 (this is what soled it for me)
C4D R10 Studio (it includes all of the modules but not Mograph & still does not do plants and terrains) = 3500$, Carrara 6 Pro + Hexagon 2.2 = 700$ (with no sales)
I am happy with both of them...
Hope this helps

hey man i have both,
so carrera low price, pretty good st of tools, very good for the price if you want to have in Cinema 4D all the tools you got in carrera you gonna cash...
however cinmea 4d is far better, much easy to learn, and very powerfull much more than carrera, the render engine is so much supperior,
cinema 4d is for big production, carrera is for amateur and up.
then cinema can be use with vue, and have a plugin interposer pro, but as i say you have to cash a lot.
so carrera is very good indeed and way cheaper than cinema 4d,
but cinema 4d is far more supperior so it's price...
but you can try cinema 4d for free, only you can't save, very good to get to know the program,
and the cinema 4d comunity is bigger too.
hum the shader in carrera seam to be more complex (node based) to be honest i haven't got the brain cell to figure them out... so i prefert cinema 4d shader, and with final render stage 2 a plug in you can have it too (but still the price...)
so if money isn't a problem go for cinema 4d with all the bell's other wise stick to carrera, it a very very desent apps.
hope that would help you...

I have both. Had Carrara since version 1 and C4D since v7. I now have the latest versions of each - C6 Pro and the new C4D v10.5 XL Bundle. It does really some doen to what you want to do in computer graphics. If you are a hobbyist and just playing around every now and then then C6 Pro is great. If you want to do professional work (not that it can't be done in C6 Pro) and need more versatility then defintiely get C4D. It is amazing software, straightforward to learn, and has pletny of learning resources available. The rpics is also a major issue. C4D is ore expensive whne you get into the XL and Studio Bundles...but in my opinion you do get what you pay for. Their modules like MOCCA and Hair are amazing.
Bottom line is figure out exactly what you will need the software to do and that should tell you. If still undecided, get the demos.
Best of luck....and btw, there is no right or wrong choice, it is what is right for YOU!
