Help please! Whenever I try to import a .3ds or.obj file into C6 Pro, all I get is a small black dot in the centre of the xy plane.
I've never had a problem importing into C5 Pro.

It also appears that C5 won't open a C6 file... is that correct?

Firstly, you should ensure you scene size is set at Medium (or small)

It is common that older apps (0f all flavours) do not import the files from newer versions.

Hi bwtr,
Thanks for the response. I have tried setting the scene size to all three default sizes with no luck. I have also looked to increase the scale of the dreaded black dot... but not a sausage helps.
Hmmm...

I just reconfirmed that importing 3ds is ok in the small and medium size.
It is a standard fix as I have suggested and works 100%--at least on PC versions of Carrara.
If you are on PC, double check that you are selection the small size correctly. Note you can't visually see a different screen view--the items just import bigger.

Note. It's important NOT to select any of the Landscape Wizard or Presets items. If you do that , as well as the screen size, you seem to only get the big screen size.

A fix that is expected in the next few days.

Hi bwtr,
Thanks for your interest in this mystery.
I've tried again opening a new doc, just an empty scene at small, and when importing, I see the model name in the Instances menu, and the hot point appears in the grid. (I assume it is the hot point!)
I then try changing it's size numerically, with no effect. And no object appears in the workspace. I've also tried zooming out, so that I'm positioned somewhere near Timbuctoo, in case the object hasn't been positioned... still nothing. I then fire up C5Pro, and can import the object with no problem,

I'm on a Mac, btw. Thanks again for your help!

I get that with mac import of pz3 files into c6pro, but not with obj files. (an empty scene with an hotpoint/centre, but no vertices).

I think I smell a bug? Anyone at Eovia listening? Help please...
I get the hot point when I try to import .3ds files, I get absolutely nothing when I try to import .obj files... and haven't tried pz3 files.
Thanks for the response, Miss N.

The attached shows 3DS imports into the 3 screen sizes. Not all 3ds files import at the same size naturally, but this sample seems fairl common to a lot of the 3ds files I have.

Not getting any import size is very odd. Have you tried the exercise on a number of 3ds files from various sources?

I've done a bit of testing, and I'm thinking that it is to do with the age of the .3ds file. Even a good quality .3ds file bought and downloaded from a reputable online store wouldn't open. So I opened it in C5Pro instead, exported it as a .3ds file, and am now able to open it in C6Pro.

Does that make sense?

Makes NO sense AT ALL!
But you have to laugh!  It works for you!

Not Eovia anymore, it is DAZ now.
Report it as a bug.

You have to make an account to report bugs to DAZ.:tongue1:

If enough people scream enough about it, they will fix it, otherwise they will ignore it and say that the .3ds -> C5 -> C6 workaround is a 'fix' (and call it a job well done).

Hah! That's what I thought.

Anyway, I have reported it as a bug, and I see a couple of others have too... so it's not just me!

Thanks for the input, guys!
